Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 3

I'm playing The Division and the lag is bad.
I am running a ping to 8.8.8.8 and notice alot of "Request Timed Out" happening ALOT as well as my times are sitting in the 300ms and now and again 30ms.

I tried to call Afrihost and I'm number like 30 in the queue.

Live chat is not working... I'm sick of having to sit in long queues... WTF guys.

Haha! everyones back from holiday and internet usage is up.

This past festive season pretty much confirmed fault is congestion on Afrihost network. Since 25 Dec pings was PERFECT!!! everything went pear shaped once we hit the 4 Jan.
Its also very clear if you run tests during day vs evening. Day pings in 20's, hit 6pm you are about 180's.

Not to mention if you ping bras.afrihost.com, any time of day, you consistently get >25ms.
If you ping afrihost.com, day time, pings are consistently 20's. As soon as you hit evenings, its becomes 180's

bras.afrihost.com is your exchange, if it gets really high in the evenings it's your exchange and not the Afrihost network. Should easily be able to confirm by using another ISP's trial account.

Does anybody know if Free Time data is also unshaped if I selected the unshaped option?
According to support it is, but I've had some strange p2p behavior. No concrete evidence, but it feels like p2p is struggling until 6pm, when you start using your cap ;)

I know you're not AfriGenie, but I guess he will see this as well. Was playing Diablo 3 and my latency went up to 3k latency so I quit (again).

I pinged bras and then google (see below the first 2 pings).

I then swapped to another ISP account and it was fine (see 3rd quote).

I then swapped back to my AH account and it was fine (see 4th quote) but while typing this post it went belly up again (5th quote).

Swapped back to other ISP account again and it was fine and it is staying fine even after 10mins.
Edit: took 15mins to screw up. If it is indeed exchange congestion, what can be done about it? Or am I screwed and at the mercy of Telkom?

AfriGenie, it seems you resetting my line yesterday did not help.

Also having a lot of packet loss again.
Got a message of this being escalated to NOC (4th Jan), then no nothing.

I'm having the same issue with support they didn't reply after 24 hours and even after AfriFella stepped in they still haven’t replied.

I've noticed and logged packet loss and increased latency on a few AH links. For example 2 months ago to this day and time checking a PoE server I was getting 158ms as of right now it is 215ms with a few extra hops in the trace.

I think we need to just get hold of the right people at AH so that they can look into these latency issues and the pack loss on the London side. But trying to do that is a whole other mission.

I can now confirm what others have said in this thread regarding latency.

During the day it is perfectly normal, but in the evening, local increases on average 10ms and international by 50ms.

Also significant packet loss on "if-ae-11-2.tcore1.L78-London.as6453.net" which many online services and websites use.

AH support finally replied after 4 days, lets see if I can get them to forward me to CC as that is the only place things get done when talking about routing and the AH network.

Getting <2 Mbps to Google Play Store on 20 Mbps line. "Unshaped" capped account... Please explain?

Also getting packet loss and slow speeds. What I can't understand is being routed via Melbourne for most of the international sites.

Any news with regards to this subject

With regards to my query to AH Client Zone, it seems that there is some confusion within AH (Ticket Ref# TZD-395-65370).

The Shaped/Unshaped mail was finally shared with me and the following statement is noticeable:

"PLEASE NOTE: If you do not select any of the options above, your DSL Package
will automatically be doubled-up on the 1st of January 2017. "

As noted clearly on my all my correspondence to AH on this subject - My data is SHAPED and I did not receive the double data. This implies that AH is providing me with the worst of both options!

From a legal perspective, I deem this to be a breach of contract on Afrihost's part as my original agreement we entered into clearly stipulates that capped data will not be shaped. In addition, the changes to this original agreement allows one the flexibility to choose either shaped data without the double data or unshaped data with double data.

Our Engineers and NOC haven't raised any alarms as far as I am aware, but if you can give us some examples, we'll escalate this to them ASAP.

That doesn't sound very good at all. Do you have that traceroute so I can look at it? :(

Free-Time should follow the same rules as your regular account. There could be some shaping on other types of accounts, but unshaped Capped won't experience that at all. :(
