Yeah. It has been fine the whole day. It starts being like this just after 5pm or so (for the last 3 or 4 days now).

Could be congestion.
No, I have the same, have throughput but packet loss, not at the exchange level.
Im not saying its definitely congestion. But that high latency at this time is pretty bad. Maybe give Telkom a call, and ask them what is the capacity like at the exchange that you are connected to

Packet loss increases latency drastically as it waits to see if packet has been received and only after x time resends it. File transfer it's not too much of an issue, but latency sensitive things like gaming make more than ~1% packet loss (which most WiFi connections already have) unplayable.

Think of missing 1 in 100 clicks, that click could be you last-hitting creeps, using abilities in team fights, last shot in a shooter, etc. which can totally ruin your game.

Thanks, then I'll change my package to 150+150 Unshaped Capped. I'm sure I'll manage with 300Gb for 6 hours a day :)

Pretty much what i have ie 150 + 150. With free time, never going to use that in that 6 hour time over the month lol

And right now at 22:05 it looks to have come right.

I'll monitor it and see if the time stays the same.

Hey there

Sorry about the confusion, I know that we've seen a few clients with some similar questions. Hope I can answer them all here. Just to clarify that the prices shown by default on the website are Shaped Capped accounts, so the Unshaped Capped accounts are generally more expensive at about twice the price for the same amount of data.

Question 1 - The default should have been to be on shaped capped for the same amount of data that you were getting during the Double Data promotion. The only exception may have been non-standard, legacy bundles which have been discontinued. If you replied to the email to opt for the Unshaped (or Priority Boosted) package, that would have come into effect this month. I'll have to check (we should have all the responses tagged to your account).

Question 2 - I think the 120GB option was a legacy bundle, so I think this may not have been included in the intial mail run, but I will be able to know exactly what mails were sent when I check your account.

You can definitely pay the standard R99 price for 100GBs, just remember that this would be Shaped Capped data, and not Unshaped Data.

Drop me a PM, I am sure we can figure this out :)

PM sent

We have updated product descriptions now in ClientZone so Capped accounts will display as either Shaped Capped or Unshaped Capped. Previously Shaped Capped accounts displayed as Capped.

Ahah! Thanks for enlightning me - didn't even notice it on my account

BTW, mine says shaped ....... yet my data has been halved :wtf:

I suppose that this indicates that the eager beaver commenting on my original post was ....... wrong :D (hence my reason for specifically asking a AH Rep to respond).

Hi guys. I was doing diagnostic tests over the phone with Telkom and they say it's show I'm syncing at 2 Mb but my line downloads to a max of 1.4-1.3 Mb. They did a port reset but it's still at 1.3-1.4 Mbps speed. Is it maybe low because of the quality of my line? What else can I do? :(

Hey

My internet is at it again, super high latency, websites taking forever to load, etc.

Pinging google.com [216.58.223.14] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 216.58.223.14: bytes=32 time=1581ms TTL=56
Request timed out.
Reply from 216.58.223.14: bytes=32 time=1077ms TTL=56
Reply from 216.58.223.14: bytes=32 time=1123ms TTL=56

Ping statistics for 216.58.223.14:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 1077ms, Maximum = 1581ms, Average = 1260ms

Not looking good at all. :( How are things running this morning?

We're not seeing general latency as high as that on our network at all... I think it would be best to ping bras.afrihost.com to check for exchange congestion the next time this happens. Please post those results.

I reported the same thing yesterday on "if-ae-11-2.tcore1.L78-London.as6453.net" at 10%.

I got one reply from support asking for more test which I did and haven’t heard back from them in 23 hours now.

Sorry to hear about the delay. :( Could you kindly confirm your ticket reference number over on PM?

You wont get the full line speed, at max you might hit 1.7

1.4mbps is still about right for a 2mbps line

Those speeds seem consistent with a 2Mbps line. Remember that there are other factors that influence your result, such as Attenuation (resistance on your copper line) and even your local network setup.

I'll post a screenshot. At my other place I'm getting 1.7-1.8 Mbps. Yeah could be right as I'm quite far from the exchange as well and my max speed in my area is 4 Mbps but at my other place I'm capable of getting 20 Mbps VDSL.

Seems your assumption was wrong :erm:

Happens to the best of us. I was just going on my experience where I had to change my shaped capped account to an unshaped one last month.

Traceroutes will help us see if there is any extra latency affecting speeds, but it's possible that the distance will slow the speeds down a bit :(
