13 mbps limit?
WTF??
Is that for the card that my line is connected to?

Yes, the DSLAM you are connected to runs of ATM infrastructure (the old type) and has a limit of 13mbps... (15mbps including the upstream bandwidth which is fully utilized as well - see green part of graph)

And how many lines connect to this dslam?

So approximately 8 x 13 = 104?

best way to get the area upgraded is to get all your neighbors and people you know in the area to log faults if they are experiencing the same issue.

upgrading a congested exchange is more of a financial decision for telkom rather than a technical one...

Lovely South African business mentality......

So that means that 13 mbps needs to be shared across approx. 104 lines = 0,125 mbps/line.
F***ing sick.

And you know what else is sick - for the hell of it I got a friend to phone Telkom and ask to get a line installed in my area and was told "yeah sure no problem" - knowing full well that the exchange is congested.

And unfortunately don't know my neighbours as we are very private people. So that is going to be rather difficult.

And from now on - it doesn't matter WHAT fault you have, AH will just point to Telkom and laugh... ;)

No offence to AH, but yes - everytime there is an issue, my exchange is the first thing that comes up.
I can't believe this ie 13 mbps limit spread over approx. 104 lines.
*shakes head in absolute disgust*

I don't think it's a matter of us pointing the finger here - from the results you've pasted and that have been running through on troubleshooting, the issue has been clear that it's been your exchange.

It's definitely not a "get out of jail free" card for us, nor is it for any other client. But if the data is there, the data is there.

correct, there is not much that afrihost can do about this.

the ball lies in telkom's court in this regard.

Waste of time, ADSL is a best effort service remember...
If best effort is actually what occurs I would maybe understand.
All this while places like Sandton etc get fibre - all just about the money.
I guess I need to stop ranting now.....

Hello AfriPeople. :)

Are you able to obtain line stats like the one ghostR posted at post #937?
It immediately explained to Dianysis why he has such terrible connectivity and would probably help other customers as well.

By the way, my network is still awesome. :)

@ Dianysis, I hope your exchange problems get sorted out quickly. Holding thumbs that AfriMan will make it happen for you. :)

TelkomZA sorted out my exchange issues, try ask him.
