What would it mean if a ping to bras.afrihost.com times out every time ?

Speeds are relatively ok, I've a 10 Mbps connection that is capped at 8.3 Mbps although my router indicates it can connect at 12, is it possible reset my connection to go back to 10?

Hey, if bras.afrihost times out it is most likely due to your exchange not being on the new telkom software.
Can you post your line stats so we may advise you on the 10Mbps question.

Please would you run the second tool linked in my sig :) It'll help you out to diagnose a fault!

From what I have seen,

IMAX/MSAN/ISAM on ME fiber link can ping 155.239.255.250 and hop 2 will time out in a trace route.

DSLAM on ATM link can not ping 155.239.255.250 and hop 2 does not time out in a trace route.

Hi

I tested with an Ubuntu ISO link you sent a few posts back and it was downloading at 200KB/s plus - and the client zone doesn't indicate any shaping. I have also only used 28GB of data this month - so I doubt if it is that, and especially only for Steam

I have just checked Steam and it has just completely died after being on 1.1Kb/s :P

I'm getting the exact same thing with Steam. I cant install any steam games without getting an error (timeout). I cant download any games at a speed higher than 1kb/s. I've tried changing to numerous other steam content servers and no luck so far.

My speed test does 980kb/s (10mbps line).

When I connect to a Telkom account I can install steam games and download at full speed.

downstream shouldn't be a problem, upstream is the problem and will inhibit you from attaining 10mbps.

I was not able to run the tool, it gives an error message.

My line runs more or less at the maximum for an 8 Mbps line (speedtest ~7 Mbps), but I would like to know if my line stats indicate that it could connect at the maximum rather?

If you don't receive any results by pinging bras.afrihost.com it usually means that your Exchange doesn't not respond to ICMP traffic. Nothing to be concerned about. :)

That latency does look a bit higher than normal, but if your line can sync at 12Mbps instead of 10Mbps it means you are on one of Telkom's upgraded exchanges, which have interleaving enabled now. This will add between 15ms and 20ms to your latency but it should ensure that you have close to zero packet loss and a bit of extra speed.

What type of ADSL account do you have with us at the moment? Are you seeing any other services affected?

still haven't received my invoice for the upgrade to my capped package AfriGenie. I only received my old 10GB invoice, but ive done an upgrade and not received the new invoice. Thats my only issue which i created, because its been so quiet around here in terms of complaints :D

Hmmm, it looks like because you changed your package after the 25th of the month, our system had to generate a new invoice for you. You should receive it before the charge for the 50GB Capped account goes off.

Interesting, can't remember if I changed package after or before the 25th though

26th of November at 08h23 the package change was requested from your ClientZone. ;)
Aah :D I tend to not keep track of these things lol. As long as the right things are there, then all cool. I see my package now shows the 50GB. So I assume I get my 50GB bundle from tomorrow?

AfriGenie - my line is completely dead. No dial tone on the phone and adsl is dead.
Logged a fault with Telkom.
Haven't heard anything. Can I pm the fault number to you to try see if you can get some info?
