Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Samsung Smart TV + LG Smart TV connected via Ethernet.
YouTube premium.
That being said, mess less issues the past 2 days compared to how it was over the weekend.
Update:

From what I have experienced, buffering is almost isolated to videos potentially not yet cached on local SA servers. I watch a lot of indie music videos from East Asia (often with very few views) and they seem to buffering a lot since the weekend where more mainstream videos rarely buffer.

Not sure if that is possible or if just coincidental, but it certainly isn't always like this...

I've come to a similar conclusion. More often than not, buffering will occur on videos from smaller channels that may not already have been watched/cached locally. I'm not sure what backend process occurs when an uncached video is requested and fetched, but that might be the issue.

I watch on PC (Chrome, no ad blocker, and Brave), Apple TV 4K and mobile.

I'm having constant packet loss to my upstream gateway (102.182.203.1) and other services. Some days I'll have 100% packet loss for a few minutes multiple times a day. Google Meet will drop out at least 50% of the time, making it very hard to talk to my colleagues.

This is the last 1 hour (2023-11-30 7am to 8am)

1701325016971.png

And over the last 24 hours (2023-11-29 to 2023-11-30).
1701325098357.png

Note the packet loss is higher than the graph represents. This is because Grafana is averaging the values over a larger period as you increase the window. So instead of averaging intervals over a 5s period, it averages over a 30s period, when your didn't have packet loss for say 20s, so it shows the average of say 20% and 0% which is 10%.

For example if zoom into the gateway graph around midnight where it shows < 20% packet loss, the loss is actually MUCH higher, up to 100% (Date for below is 2023-11-29 going into 2023-11-30)

1701325357676.png

So there is definitely a problem with my line or something just upstream of it.

Then the other problem is further upstream, I guess with Afrihost or their peers (Date the below is 2023-11-29)

Google DNS (8.8.8.8) and Showmax NAPAfrica (169.255.195.23) experience the same packet loss at the same time, while AWS/Prime (52.85.24.6) has no issue. I assume this could be because AWS is hosted in Cape Town and Showmax is in JHB?

To show it isn't an isolated incident, here are a few more graphs. I've included the date ranges in the screenshots (top left). Again, if a view is zoomed out the values will be lower because of grafana averaging, not because they are actually lower.

@SilverCode please drop me a PM with your email address.

@Afrigirl please can you assist with this order, AH6D592F4050BE do you know when the router will be delivered? The line is going to be terminated by the end of the month and I want to make sure the new tenant has his line ready please.
Hey @Afrigirl is this order ready to be activated tomorrow? Im about to hand over the router to my tenant and would just like to make sure all is good on his end.

Clients still experiencing Youtube buffering please get tests from the link below and share a video link as well.
We are trying to compile all the results for our ticket with Google.

This buffered badly this morning:

Testing the same video now and it's fine, so as per other posts - once it's cached it's smooth but watching non "mainstream" videos are often quite problematic.

Looks like Durban North is down again? Seems wide spread, at least from the WhatsApp groups

Yea YouTube seems dead. Hopefully they're messing around with things to figure out a solution

I don't remember Youtube buffering this much last month or any other month. Just all of a sudden, it's buffering like crazy as if I'm running a super slow ADSL.

This is very annoying as I watch Youtube predominately. If I'm paying a premium for a 100MB line I don't expect there to be latency issues.
