Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Any better for others in Durban?

I'm in Queensburgh and Openserve is near impossible to use. Had to reschedule my work Zoom call.Afrihost Plot.png

We have a discussion at 3pm today. I will provide further feedback then.

I think we have a few servers around we can deploy this on. Once approved I will see if I can get a poc (proof of concept) cache up.

Did anything positive came out of this meeting regarding this?

The credit has been passed.
You’re going to love this. Vumatel just called asking if I lived at the incorrect address you guys had repeatedly associated with my order. They want to onboard the actual residents there.

Feels as though my account will be dropped again. Glorious.

:cautious:Vumatel.
Since 2021, we received ownership of the Object number on that address. So, the address has been incorrect since installation, and during the system failure in the past few weeks, the request to change your address was ignored.

Hopefully, there won't be any downtime when they correct the address.

Can you do anything other than offer hope? Them being ignorant doesn’t seem to fit with actual ISO level service management.

The person who called was called Lesedi if that’s any use.

I will check with the sales team to see who contacted you and what steps they have taken.

@Afrigirl Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but any reason why international is routing via JHB first before heading outbound?

I'm in CPT btw.

Thought people might enjoy this one... getting a lot of value for the free Openserve installation on the new line that I ordered for my grans place.
First Openserve engineer arrived last week Tuesday (impressive since the order was placed on the Friday). He pulled the fibre to the house and got it installed. Discovered there is a fault. Traces it down but needs access to a property.
Wed - More openserve vans, more attempts to access other properties
Thurs - Apparently 4 techs arrived
Fri - Techs popped in and said they were trying to get it sorted.
Saturday - Engineer from JHB came through to PTA East. Apparently fibre break and it either needs a repair or replacement.
Since then its been silence.
Its still a lot of man hours being spent on a little 50Meg line for an old lady to read her emails and watch DSTV.

Just to add... Afrihost placed the order quickly so very happy with them.

UPDATE: Apparently a tree 3 houses down had a branch break off and it broke the fibre. Its getting replaced and once thats done then we should be up and running.

Anyone completely disconnected on openserve in Durban? Gone dead here. Using mobile data to post.

Hi There,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I have been going through a nightmare with Afrihost and support has been indifferent at best.

My line was activated last week Friday(6 December) and speeds are throttled at 300mbps since day one. This is a 1000mbps/1000mbps line.

What is strange is that ethernet speeds are normal, speed from the router via ethernet sit at around 900-950mbps, however the wireless speeds are hard capped at 300mbps, I have tested this on multiple routers(all capable of speeds well over 1000mbps). The only real feedback I get from support is an endless cycle of sending speedtests with the same results and "turn it off and back on" kind of solutions.

Frogfoot technicians have been here twice to test the line coming from both the ONT and the router, ethernet speeds are fine but wireless will not go over 300mbps. I would prefer not to run trunking and ethernet lines to every device in the house that requires internet.

By now there is a whole database of speedtests from both me and the Frogfoot guys yet I get asked to do them at every interaction, ultimately leeading to radio silence after one or two emails.

I have pleaded with Afrihost that since it is not the line, the ONT or the router(s) it must be a settings related or throttling issue on the ISP end but they refuse to acknowledge this and just keep the cycle of back and forth going. I have been told that I will receive a call from a tech supervisor to run through settings in real-time but that never happened, nor do I get any update from any of the support people I have spoken to. Its like writing a letter and throwing it out the window.

At this point I am pretty much giving up and will likely cancel my fibre and switch back to another ISP. OF course afrihost will fine me for this but its better than paying full price and getting less than a third of the advertised speeds.

If anyone has experienced similar and found a solution any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What router do you currently have?

Most routers have a 2.4Ghz band Wi-Fi and a 5Ghz band Wi-Fi.
2.4Ghz band is better for long rage and 5Ghz better for speed throughput.

Sound like, to me, you are connected to the 2.4Ghz band.
