Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Resolved! :) what was the issue if i may ask?

We have 6 x 100G cross connects with Vumatel in CPT.

1 of these failed on Thursday and after it came back up had very high error rate so we disabled it again. Logged an emergency change to swap the sfp modules to see if we enable it again if the errors are gone.

So it wasn't filtering it was actually loss due to a faulty link.

Wow, impressive! I understand and thanks for the update :)

I requested an update again from Vumatel on the address clearance. Your address is still not available for order placing.
Ok but what does that mean exactly? What is the next step to getting some accountability on their end? What is Afrihost's position on not providing a service I pay for?

This feels like contempt for the customer at this point.

Once the service is back up we WILL credit you for the downtime. I wish we can just quickly activate you and get it sorted right now but it's not possible and we follow the process of clearing the address that is stipulated by Vumatel and every ISP will need to follow this process even if you asked another ISP to step in.

What is involved in 'clearing' the address?

I gather vumatel runs like the public sector but how do we apply additional urgency given they are a critical third party for your organisation? I know I'm only a customer but I've paid you dutifully for almost 4 years and put up with other incidents but this just leaves me gobsmacked at the sheer apathy.

Basically you're saying there is no end in sight for this, we have no processes to deal with it effectively and you can be credited but we don't particularly care either way because you have to ask for that to happen.

Incredible.

I guarantee this is as frustrating to them as it is for you.

There are obviously obstructions causing the delay in having your issue sorted out on the FNO side.

@AfriNatic as advised if he could he would by all means have you activated and running within seconds if he could.

I understand your frustration and how long it has taken to be resolved but if one side is not playing nice you cannot blame the other side that is trying their best to help.

@AfriNatic has many times gone out of his way to help, as far as even trying to help a certain FNO in my area to configure their equipment correctly whilst on leave and in my area.

I really hope that you can be up and running asap.
