Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

@Afrigirl
also want to get some answers, last year was terrible in terms of the intermittent disconnects.
I received a communication from my former ISP in December that Vuma would be doing maintenance on their "legacy Vuma Villages" network (previously known as SADV)
Did Vuma provide any update on this network remediation performed in December? as it's evident that the disconnects are still happening ...
Same issue in Beacon Bay from about 30 December. Still no resolution to the 20% speed and nightly jitter/latency issues. @Africagirl it’s been 10 days now, will we be getting a discount for the low speeds we are getting. I am paying for 1000/250 and I am getting 200/200. Can someone please get back to me with a follow up from our previous PM’s
Good morning.

The maintenance was completed on the 29th of December. Currently, we are dealing with degraded services in East London, and Vuma NOC advised that the clients submitted are on a Gpon card that is oversubscribed and are working on moving those clients to a separate port.

Have they indicated by when they expect the move to the separate port to take place?

Why the move to Liquid? As I see CISP also seems be moving over to Liquid, and it's just a nightmare. So was wanting to move accounts over to Afrihost, but now I'm gonna rather keep an eye on the forum for the next few months.

We met with our carriers and tried to engineer the best solution.

We are now favouring Openserve egress from KZN to Marseille however this does come at a cost latency-wise to the US as the route is longer from KZN to the USA via Marseille but is the best solution for the best latency from KZN to EU.

For KZN clients please test the latency in games to European servers and advise if the latency is better overall. The changes have already been done as of 09:54am today.

As for the return path we don't have much say there but we have engineered some changes to suggest return paths networks should use however this is still up to the respective networks to respect as these suggestions might not be favourable to them and can ignore these and choose the path that work the best for them but has adverse effects on latency.

hi, what about JHB clients to the EU ? is routing going via CPT or DBN ? and I suppose same question from JHB to US , via CPT or DBN ?

It's worse...much worse.

from 160ms when i got this fibre to now 192ms. To london

Die fokken company...! A wolf in sheep's clothing.

After a year of the best internet ever, I noticed that during ~ 18:00 to 23:30 Ithat I am severly throttled on my 40/10 line. Getting sub 20/10 most of the times during that time. Sent traceroutes, speedtests, and since Thursday last week: total silence from the so-called rep (Thulani N). Opened a call to support@afrihost to downgrade my package, giving them the suspected reason: my package will be downgraded. No attempts to resolve or get to the root of issue. Very telling...

Now it seems I have to wait for end of the month for the cheaper fiber package, but I will still be charged full price for a degraded package until then.

I just hope more companies get a foothold in my area. The sooner I can get rid of this the better.

Hello. Please share the ticket ID so I can follow up.

Hi @Afrigirl @AfriNatic

Quick question if a relative is covered on Openserve web connect can they take the free 30 days uncapped on the Openserve app and apply with Afrihost after the 30 days

Problems again with East London/Vumatel. Vumatel reprovisioned the line yesterday after Afrihost logged a call, and it was better than great. Now this evening we are back to normal upload speeds, terrible download speeds and regular packet drops :(

Down in Wilro Park Roodepoort also.

I see it is posted on the website as an outage...

Any word on what's going on with the Openserve outage in Centurion? Line is back - ish - but keep getting intermittent disconnects.
