Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Any word on what's going on with the Openserve outage in Centurion? Line is back - ish - but keep getting intermittent disconnects.
The outage has been cleared, services are being restored.

Ok. Anything I should check for the disconnect-reconnect issues, or is it just a matter of waiting until services are fully restored?
Please reboot now, and monitor the connection.

Stable for a short while but disconnections have resumed for the last half hour.
touch wood -> powered down router and fiber box for 10 minutes, and much more stable now (since about 6pm)
ping to default gateway provided by PPPOE
--- 41.170.74.193 ping statistics ---
1006 packets transmitted, 1006 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 5.226/6.343/17.103/0.524 ms

Up to sh*t in East London again tonight - Vumatel sort out your sh*t

Worked fine for a bit again, then went to hell again over the past few min. Same for you?

@Afrigirl

I upgraded my fibre package from 50mb to 100mb through the ClientZone Web Portal, however after 24 hours and spending about two hours on the WhatsApp helpdesk my line speed hasn't changed.

I followed all requested procedures, turning off my ONT Box and router, rebooting it. I even had my line reset and doing the entire procedure again and my connection speed still hasn't changed.

Would it be possible to look into this for me? Try to determine what the issue is?

I'm on Octotel in Kraaifontein, Western Cape.

I can DM you additional information.

TIA

The outage has been cleared, services are being restored.

The Centurion Openserve outage is still ongoing.

To give you an indication:

Code:
Jan 12 17:46:16 fw-dlink pppd[13599]: Connect time 16.9 minutes.
Jan 12 19:33:41 fw-dlink pppd[14258]: Connect time 106.0 minutes.
Jan 12 19:57:15 fw-dlink pppd[16630]: Connect time 22.2 minutes.
Jan 12 19:59:29 fw-dlink pppd[17409]: Connect time 1.7 minutes.
Jan 12 20:16:48 fw-dlink pppd[17946]: Connect time 16.9 minutes.
Jan 12 20:28:57 fw-dlink pppd[18698]: Connect time 11.7 minutes.
Jan 12 20:30:21 fw-dlink pppd[19284]: Connect time 0.9 minutes.
Jan 12 20:36:45 fw-dlink pppd[19457]: Connect time 6.0 minutes.
Jan 12 20:42:59 fw-dlink pppd[20045]: Connect time 3.9 minutes.
Jan 12 20:48:58 fw-dlink pppd[20569]: Connect time 5.5 minutes.
Jan 12 20:51:02 fw-dlink pppd[21119]: Connect time 1.7 minutes.
Jan 12 20:54:59 fw-dlink pppd[21557]: Connect time 3.5 minutes.
Jan 12 21:11:07 fw-dlink pppd[22058]: Connect time 15.7 minutes.
Jan 12 21:14:35 fw-dlink pppd[22797]: Connect time 3.0 minutes.
Jan 12 21:15:56 fw-dlink pppd[23299]: Connect time 0.9 minutes.
Jan 12 21:20:44 fw-dlink pppd[23688]: Connect time 4.4 minutes.
Jan 12 21:24:22 fw-dlink pppd[24159]: Connect time 3.2 minutes.
Jan 12 21:26:20 fw-dlink pppd[24651]: Connect time 1.5 minutes.
Jan 12 21:34:35 fw-dlink pppd[25154]: Connect time 7.9 minutes.
Jan 12 21:55:33 fw-dlink pppd[25608]: Connect time 20.5 minutes.
Jan 12 22:08:11 fw-dlink pppd[26429]: Connect time 12.2 minutes.

You can see there was a good while from 17:46 until 19:33 that we had 106 minutes of uptime, but since then it's just been up and down the whole time. Is this issue still being attended to or should we open new tickets?

Edit:

Some additional diagnostic information:

1. When the link is up, it flies. But the link dies every now and then:

Code:
Jan 12 22:32:47 fw-dlink pppd[27477]: No response to 4 echo-requests
Jan 12 22:32:47 fw-dlink pppd[27477]: Serial link appears to be disconnected.
Jan 12 22:32:47 fw-dlink pppd[27477]: Connect time 20.4 minutes.

2. During the outage in the morning (the one that started at 09:33 this morning) my ONT showed a red loss-of-signal light. That outage was restored in about 90 minutes. However, since then, the link has not been staying up all the time, getting disconnected as shown above even though the LOS light is not active.

3. Just before the link disconnects I can no longer ping 155.239.255.250 (the old BRAS IP).

I am very happy with my Pure Fibre until I get an issue. Like today.

I can't see any benefit in having Afrihost as an ISP as there is NO feedback and NO benefit. I always was under the impression that going with Afrihost as an ISP as opposed to contracting directly with the FNO is that they have a SLA with a lot of support behind it giving leverage when there are issues that needs to be sorted out.

I might just as well have contracted with Vodacom directly as it would have been cheaper. I snookered myself when I contracted with Afrihost. Only feedback I get is the service provider will attend to it.

I know that I am not the only one in the area experiencing issues, so it means it is not isolated, but the outage is not listed on the Afrihost page for network issues. So my question is, is it actually escalated to the FNO, or is it just the standard answer? That was ultimately the case when I signed up and had issues. I was told it was escalated to only find out 24 hours later that it wasn't.

I think I will wait out the contract and then sign up with Vodacom directly.

Seriously disaapointed!!!!
