Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

This is not a fibre outage!!! This slow download and normal upload problem have been happening randomly since October 2022.

I have hundreds of tickets reporting the problem and the problem is Afrihost airmobile MTN, not a Vumatel problem.

I am left with no choice but to move to another ISP as you are unable to fix the problem many are suffering with Afrihost.

Please fix my slow speed as it is normally fixed after I report it.

Technicians notified of possible outage

I have realised I am getting an extremely slow download speed at night and during the weekends which means Afrihost cannot cope with the load when everybody is online.
Is there legal action I can take to resolve this slow download speed problem? I was looking at my daily support tickets going back to October 2022 all with the same slow very slow download speed problem. January was the only month that I only created 2 tickets. I requested a refund before when it was a daily problem from October to mid-December then it improved for a few days. The crazy thing is every time I report it my speed gets increased so it is Afrihost causing the slow speed.

The IP you have highlighted is the gateway IP on our side of the NNI. There are multiple FNO's going through that core switch including MetroFibre and Frogfoot who are also 2 big FNO's. Loss on this IP if it's on our side means an all-or-nothing situation. If there wasn't enough capacity on this core switch everyone on all the different FNO's will be complaining that is why if it's isolated it's usually a Layer 2 issue on the FNO side.

In your case, Vumatel has logged the network incident due to DFA nld's being down.

The issue should be resolved now.

One of Axxess clients is spoofing our gateway mac address which is causing a loop over Layer 2 and the loop protection kicks in that blacklist the mac and takes all the traffic for Axxess and Afrihost down. Vuma has done an emergency change to apply a static mac entry to mitigate the impact while we try to locate the bad actor.
Would we need to reset anything to connect? I am still out as I cannot see my CCTV but am not home to switch off and on again. @xbxbau5 are you up again?

Any ETA on when this will be fixed. The slow speeds are really bad even browsing takes forever.

ETA please on vuma?

DFA 11 0013903 logged with DFA REF : 10186036

Technicians tested a disconnection at 4.8km. No eta on repair.

@AfriNatic this is absolutely unbearable, up to 40% packet loss every single night! I can't even stream Twitch for more than 5 seconds without losing connection! Do we have any feedback on when this will be resolved? What am I paying for here?

@AfriNatic Hi, before the outages last week, the international upload speeds were okay. I see they are back at 20Mpbs (instead of ~100Mbps) ;

JHB >> JHB all fine.

JHB >> CT seems okay.

JHB >> UK
(20Mpbs UP instead of ~100Mbps UP)

JHB >> Namibia, can already see the degradation?
(Latency looks fine, 43msec?)
(~50Mbps UP instead of 100 Mbps UP)

I did look into WebAfrica and only found positive reviews. Have you used WebAfrica?

Home Connect is also cheaper than Afrihost so I am wondering if I should move back to them. I only moved from Home Connect to Afrihost because they blocked Time Server: time.windows.com so my Windows 11 clock would not keep the correct time. Stupid really when I think about it as I have 215 ClientZone Ticket emails from Afrihost and 2 Ticket emails for slow connection with Home Connect one in July 2020 and the other in March 2021.

The problem is Afrihost MTN airmobile.co.za NOT Vuma Villages which they keep blaming.

Also stuffed my side if I turn off Mullvad VPN. With it on, things are fine.
