Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Gotcha. Although if Octotel switched me over and AH hadn't activated me I'd still be without connection I'd presume. Is there an automated system your side that picks up when a line is released for a pending order?

Essentially what I'm after is the process to follow. Do I cancel existing ISP, place AH order and ask for immediate migration and wait for the confirmation, or..?

I would say place a migrate order when you can and we can place an order with Octotel so long as you can confirm a migration date with Octotel when they contact you to confirm the migration.

We use DHCP so as soon as the line is switched you can just change the WAN settings to DHCP and the service activation page will load to activate the line.

Octotel have only ever called me on the day the migration was scheduled, never when the order was placed. So who gives them the instruction for the date of migration? (sorry if I sound like a broken record here, I just want to get my ducks in a row)

From different lines? I haven't noticed any issues with the server and we have a few tests on 1Gbps lines set up for testing to it and I don't see the degraded speeds.
No. Meaning. If I run another test now to Afrihost Speedtest server. I’ll get the same poor performance.

It’s all from my own link. Vuma Aerial. It’s consistently bad on my end.

Afrihost and last night I noticed BitCo sometimes as well. Choosing another server and I get more or less my full link speed.

But Afrihost is consistently performing around the 50Mb mark on speed tests.

So I dunno what’s up? It’s almost like it’s throttled to 50mb using Afrihost as a test server.

How it worked for me.

1. Cancelled and got a date from the existing ISP of line release.
2. Order through Afrihost.
3. Once order placed, Octotel called and said when do I want to migrate.
4. Octotel switched me over on the day as specified.
5. Phoned Afrihost when connection went down and directed me to the activation page.
6. Activated and was up and running.

Had an hour of downtime. Not due to Afrihost/Octotel but because I wasn't at home at the time.

As AfriNatic stated they use DHCP so make sure if you use a Mikrotik that it's configured correctly.

Also Afrihost use CGNAT so no public IP. But you can request a static or use their DDNS service.

Please can you send me a dm with your email address I want to have a look at what could be rate limiting you.

I've cancelled with Afrihost, I have not received a call from the FNO (VUMA) - my new ISP are not able to pre-order or place the order, sigh.

Hi

We have automation that releases the lines automatically at midnight.
Vumatel doesn't call clients when it comes to migrations or cancellations.

Getting very intermittent connectivity right now which is frustrating - every few minutes, I seem to be getting 404 errors on websites, and then it comes alive again for 5 minutes.

Southern suburbs, Cape Town.

Hi.

Please send me a PM with your email address or account number so I can have a look.

your process did not work, this morning when my new ISP wanted to activate the message on Vuma's portal was there was a cancellation pending for the 1st July. (the is exactly what I reached out multiple times to Afrihost but for the 1st June)
Anyway, I phoned in to your helpdesk because now I sit with no afrihost internet and the new ISP cannot activate... your helpdesk did an immediate release..
but the point is - I was not able to speed up the activation, vuma now may take up to 5 working days to activate .. it's been a nightmare with afrihost from day 1. I don't know how afrihost is voted number 1 ISP ? perhaps I fall into a small percentage that did not receive the "joy"

Hi

The 30 day notice is a Vumatel term. We submit the cancellation via api and then it's a 30 days term which Afrihost absorbs the costs for. We can then immediately release the line so it's available for the new ISP to migrate.

Once the new ISP places an order it takes a few minutes for the line to be activated at the new ISP not 5 working days.
