Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

Love the response from Afrihost tech support. Basically saying: It's not our problem.

Here is their response:

"Trust you are well :)

Apologies for the late response in regards to your slow access.

According to the trace route, the 1st five hops that are connected are on our local network, meaning that it would would have a low ping or response time from the server as it is cached on your internal network, plus when it leaves our network, we don't have control over that response time from the server, to make you understand this better, please read the article I have attached.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me."

Really depends on the trace you sent them. First 5 hops being on your local network sounds strange, unless you have a very complex home network.

Can I see the whole trace and troubleshooting tests you submitted?

So I migrated to Afrihost this week and its not looking good.
I logged a ticket about the slow speeds I'm getting every night and after 24 hours still no reply to my ticket.
I am on 100/25 package.

Anyone else getting slow speeds at night CPT?

There shouldn't be any congestion on our side, so we'll need to troubleshoot and see where this might be originating.

Which provider are you on? Looks like it could be Octotel, but don't want to assume. If you've run any tests, please post them up too.

Just feedback from my side. They did a reboot of the line and it has sorted out the speeds.

We were doing the G1, we're now supplying the ACR1.

Not sure what the main differences are, but I believe there are a few improvements.

Can anyone provide more info on this?
From what I can see it's the same router but ships with different firmware?

I am on Octotel yes, I ran a test just now. Like i said it seems like the slower speeds start at 19:00

Is this normal though for a Fibre network? I thought Fibre manages congestion much better?
I know Octotel in Claremont had majors issues between on the dot 6pm until 11pm everyday. Took the guys to complain over 6 months for them to finally sort and upgrade their Network

I did a speed test now by connecting my pc directly to the CPE box. Speeds are fine then.test2.PNG

It really depends on how the provider has designed their network and their backhaul. That's why it's best to log a ticket with us so we can get the provider to investigate.

Let me look into that :(
Still waiting for them to pick up my router. . . .when will this happen ?

EDIT: Sigh, actually - im just going to cancel the return - coz i can see this is a huge #$@$$# up waiting to happen.....

My Openserve line is dead and ONT shows power light only. I have reported it yesterday via WhatsApp to Ricky S.
Not what I need at month end.

I see a few posts around this - I am happy to facilitate the return for those people experiencing those symptoms like disconnects, etc.

The biggest different is a 1Ghz process as opposed to 600Mhz on the G1. The new one also has MU-MIMO. Bigger flash memory,

Those are the main differences.
