I'm not familiar with your routing to CoreIX, this is mine:

Their upstream diversity (NTT, who owns IS, Cogent, BTN, L3 and IS) with POP in AMX, LON, CIX, FR and more is fantastic.

Yeah but the latency is not that great hey. You use Websquad who uses Network Platforms and their latency is much lower than Telkom. The Seacom or Essay route for EU West is not ideal. It's fine for EU Central to East maybe but not EU west like UK, NL, Germany or they are doing something wrong because with Cloudflare warp who uses Seacom gets much lower latency on the same route to EU.

BTW I see coreix.net is probably not in LON1 exchange and likely the reason traffic gets handed over. I could swear I saw them peering directly with them before unless the server changed. Anyways.

Seems comparable within a few ms and blows away Vox... They are both great networks to be on, but Web Squad does have their direct China route which is something Echo does not.

Very but now lets try Amsterdam, Germany or France. Now you will see the 190ms vs 169ms from Network Platforms.

Simply put, Seacom has the best latency to the EU.
But its expensive.
So not everyone uses it, especially Telkom, who has IP Transit over other major cables as an investor.

End of that story, really.

Hi Afriman,
Thank you, something happened yesterday/last night and all of a sudden everything seems to be back to normal. I wish I new what the issue was but let's monitor and see how it goes.

@AfriMan Its been brought up already, but is the network team looking into why the latency rises by 20ms in the evening and it appears to be all over the place too.

E.g.
Code:

Ping statistics for 91.192.195.29:
    Packets: Sent = 31, Received = 31, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 155ms, Maximum = 209ms, Average = 172ms

This is what im getting atm whereas it would usually be 148ms~. The ping should not be so sporadic either.

I get you, we definitely want latency to be as stable as possible. I've raised this with our NOC and asked them to take it further in terms of what can be done to stabilise.

@AfriMan just as a matter of interest - random question - my parents changed to a Tenda router as the WiFi is *much* better than the DIR-825 (side note), when I activated the new router (Frogfoot) with AH they were given an IP 165.73.120.xxx which GeoIP looks up as Western Cape, previously they had 169.1.253.xxx which GeoIP looks up as JHB - my uncle who is also on FF about 5 mins away is still on his DIR-825 and has one of those JHB IP's.

I'm on Openserve and have a 169.0.116.xxx IP which geoip's as CPT.

Is this just luck of the draw, or is there a reason why the Afrihost DIR's both got the JHB IP's and this new router got a CPT one on a different range?

I don't think the router has any influence (to my knowledge). It's probably random and controlled by how we've dispersed our IP range. I don't think it should affect your experience in any way though.

Sounds like it may have been outside of our network, but most important thing is you getting a good experience now ;)

Hey guys

Our want to look into the latency issues that were reported, we need to work with our upstream partners as well to do some end-to-end investigation.

Could I please ask that those of you willing to test please send me the folllowing:

Your public IP
Destination IP or URL
Traceroute or MTR

Please send to me on PM so I can put everything together and send on.

Hey @AfriMan I have been having constant issues with my fibre line. Losing connection daily, slow data throughput. Having to have to reboot my router several times a day.

Your support team refuse to log an issue with Metrofibre to investigate saying that I need to monitor this for a full week. I been having this problem since Monday, and that doesn't seem to warrant cause for concern? Please can you assist.

I run my security cams on this, and if I go away I cannot have issue like this.

Hey there

Totally understand your concerns. We do definitely need to troubleshoot, but monitoring for a week doesn't sound like it will help us isolate the cause :(

Drop me a PM please - let me see what I can do on my end :(

So this is Afrihost Support after about 3 weeks of back and forth emails about bad service when it comes to twitch and iptv services internationally this is the final reply

Thank you for your e-mail.

My apologies for the late reply Kindly note that once a connection leaves our network/datacentre we have no control over the overall experience.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to improve your connection experience to international sites.

Have a great day further:)

I am seriously considering cancelling my service with Afrihost as soon as my 6months lapses to avoid too many cancellation fees

Anybody experience any issues using smartdns VPN service on Afrihost fibre?

Whenever I connect to their Jhb based server I can never get any data throughput. If I change to an international server then it works?
