Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

Anyone here to help?? Afrihost support is closed for night.

After setting up a new connection using ethernet cable all settings were accepted and configuration worked.. Connection light is green. But when trying to connect to the internet I get this dlink error "connection to internet is off"

Does this mean that afrihost has not activated the account yet??

Client Zone on my phone app using mobile data shows all systems are working... And there was a spike in data use...

But I am now frustrated. Can't gain access to internet on any device either via ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Please can anyone help me get out of this conundrum

Hi there

I got your PM. Will chat to you there and get all the details.

@AfriMan

Correct me if I am wrong. If I take out the 100Mbps Fiber on Frogfoot for R875 and not take the option for the router, the R5000 credit will cover the installation as well as 4 months payments?

No, the R5000 is a credit that covers Installation, Activation and Router up to a maximum of R5,000. If the total exceeds R5,000, then you are billed the difference. For migration, it also covers cancellation costs with your ISP, which we credit back to you, but the same maximum applies.

It does not cover monthly fees in any way.

So does AH use PPPoE like op said he must use or must it be Dynamic IP?

We generally use DHCP, but for Openserve we have to use PPPoE becuase of how their network is setup (still via IPC). Some providers do use PPPoE with other ISPs, but we feel DHCP is the best experience, so they use DHCP with us as well. So if you migrating, you might have to change from PPPoE to DHCP for some providers.

Latency was actually alright most of the holiday period, and now it's back to fluctuating and on the rise. I thought maybe you guys fixed it, but I guess it was just a lower load with less people on? I'll be looking to leave once my 6 months is up - I can save money and get a faster package elsewhere, not to mention eliminating the cost of a VPN and getting lower latencies to EU to boot:

I think our NOC would generally be OK with latencies around 160-170ms to EU at peak demand. What time did you run this test?

probably 25 mins ago.
check latencies now as they seem to be bouncing around 179-220ms, normally, ping is stable at 179ms:

A few mins before I made the post. I appreciate your NOC is fine with latencies in a certain range, but that range is outside of my acceptable range. (it rises from 142ms in CPT to 180ms when this happens)

I guess I have differing requirements for online gaming. AH has been stellar in every other respect.

The guys are definitely aware of gaming requirements. They are looking at it to see what can be improved.

@AfriMan. Can you please release my line to the holding queue so that my new ISP can take it over.

Yeah, that's not good at all for CPT -> UK. Even the baseline of 156 is about 8-10ms higher than the norm, not to mention the ~30ms variance. On CISP I get about 141 to 148ms.

Wow, I would love to get between 140 and 150 ms.

I get between 170 and 180 to Apex servers in the UK.

I am in Gauteng though, so that probably adds a bit.

Ping to UK is also fine on afrihost, its just when it comes to routing outside of the UK its a coin toss.
