Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

I'm contemplating signing up with Afrihost - I have an existing octotel line - because Webafrica became terrible in the past few months. When speaking to the people in sales they can't give me any real info on setup times. I'm told it takes up to 5 days.

Can anyone tell me if it can be done faster?

Cheers

Still waiting on Afrihost to update my ticket have had no response since Afriman's PM request. Took it in my own hands to get sorted with Warp VPN for PC just dreading the day i might need actual support for a busted ONT/Line

Geez. That's not encouraging

So my fiber line was installed this morning and although I ordered a 40meg Openserve line, I only get 10 meg speeds. Any ideas as the support people tell me the line speed will improve within 2-3 hours which is long passed?

They need it to warm up, might tear a fibre.

It happened to me too--but mine was related to migrating from another ISP (40/20 line) to Afrihost (100/50 line speed)--it was meant to be an upgrade. I remained withe 40/20 line speed for a couple of days, until I logged fault on App, WhatsApp and here with AfriMan. AfriMan suggested that they still got me on the wrong profile. So I would suggest, log a fault through the App--open a ticket--Sinhle is a great support person (hope you get him to solve your problem); then make sure you testing the line on ethernet cable connection; I have noticed the WiFi 2.4Ghz vs 5Ghz all give you lower speeds on testing on Ookla. So test via ethernet cable directly attached to your router.

Hope you come right.

Sorry I haven't given you feedback on this. I am going to refer this to our Critical Care team so we make sure you get some help with this :(

Thanks for letting me know your speeds were sorted. I replied to your last PM - please take a look :)

It really depends on the provider. Most providers are in a network freeze, so some orders will only start getting processed from Monday. Migration usually takes a few days, but it really depends on how quickly the old ISP releases the line - from there we can push the provider to process the migration.

So we definitely use SSD, but for ease of reference we still refer to them as hard drives.

Thanks for that info! Nice to finally get an answer about this long-standing query. I recommend asking the web guys to at least add an info box about it somewhere on the web hosting pages, or to just change the labels being used, because I would never in a million years assume someone is referring to solid state storage as a hard drive or hard disk.

I guess it depends on who you talk to. Our products are really aimed at a broad audience, so we want to ensure that everyone understands what we mean.

Anyone else getting slow international speeds? Sitting on 12 Mbps speed test to paris/London and 60 Locally, Openserve Durban, 100 Mbps down 50 up line.

JHB/PTA on Openserve is fine. Upload is slower because I'm seeding torrents.

No general issues that I know of.

Could you please run a couple of basic tests like a traceroute or MTR?

Yea, just tried a bunch, getting the same results sadly :/

Did you rule out the router by dialing the pppoe details while connected directly to the ONT? If so then you need to get Afrihost to log a fault with Openserve. Might be your area.

Thanks for letting me know you sorted it out by changing the router. Very interested to know how that affected your speeds. Will ask one of our super smart network people about that :)

Yea, 3 different routers later and I came right. Also confusing how it affected local and international speeds differently. New routers and a new switch and it's all sorted ;)
