I actually noticed a drop in latency to London. From ~167ms to 162ms....

Sure but definitely not because of an old router, right? :D

I don't pick sides. I really like to stay neutral as much as possible.

In SA we have a very interesting and actually great system. We have Cable Providers and then ISPs. Other countries don't they usually have an all in one solution.

This is nice because you can shop around use different service providers that moght offer better support or routes but one thing usually stays the same the cable provider just like adsl you can always change ISPs but Telkom will always be the your cable provider.

We all hated Telkom for those slow unreliable lines and expect fibre to be the solution. It is but they also like money so packet loss is a REAL issue.

You notice it more now on fast fibre lines than before on adsl.

One thing that you csn pick up from all the fibre threads here on mybb that in most cases there is packet loss on the end users line which causes havoc. Switching ISPs won't help just like switching ISPs won't help on a faulty adsl line.

Most networks that I managed to test on my line has been pretty good. People on other cable providers like Frogfoot and SADV complained here about poor performance when my side on Openserve is snappy and fast full line speed international.

If there is a general ISP network issue you will start seeing WAAAY more complaints rolling in.

Packet loss on Openserve tonight - same times as before.
No ability to troubleshoot as some paw paw has disabled ICMP.

I don't know what is the other people think. But I don't have any problem with afrihost. Even sometimes before I shouted with afrihost agent over the phone, the agents are always willing to solve problems, not the complainant. Afrihost can't provide 100% perfect internet connection to every customer, and also no one can do that, however they are really listening to customers and did their best to solve problems. The attitude is very important to the customer and the customer knew that you are actually doing your job or not. Hope you guys do your best to assist your customers and no matter how ridiculous they are in the future. The spirit for helping customers is the soul of every business. Keep doing. :)

@AfriMan I've been waiting 30+ min for your WhatsApp team to even acknowledge my support request. Does that sound like good service to you?

Vague question but is anyone else having DHCP type issues?
Octo trenched, Northern Suburbs, Cape Town
Aye. "Failed to obtain an Ip address from the DHCP server". Internet was fine before going to bed. Checked again after load shedding and now getting this lovely error. Not sure if it had anything to do with load shedding though.

Getting the exact same. Was fine last night, woke up this morning just after load shedding finished and getting this.

This is definitely load shedding related. Plenty of Junction points fail after the power is restored for some reason.

I see it's been removed from the status page - Do you know if it's up and running again?
I'm not home at the moment to check
