No feedback yet. We have been monitoring all day but did not find something to be concerned about and performance has been really good throughout the day.
Been really good here in east london. Latency is the lowest it’s even been. Whatever they did has made the world of difference.

That is good news I hope is stays like that. Vumatel has not gotten back to me on an ETA for the backhaul upgrade but I keep following up. If I get feedback you will be the first to know you have my email address ;)

Spoke too soon, something is happening on hop 5 - latency increased at 2pm from 21ms to 39ms

Speedtest to CT shows
Ping: 21ms
Download: 195.34Mbps
Upload: 197.24Mbps

Latency between CPT and JHB is about 19-20ms so that would be fine if you get ~40ms to JHB from EL.

You can keep an eye on https://www.cloudflarestatus.com/ to see when Cloudflare is rerouted. When it is rerouted traffic goes to JHB. If JHB is also rerouted it's usually London or Djibouti

Thank you, that explains it. What is a good CT server (IP Address) to use in my connection monitoring tool

You can capture the IP of any CPT server from speedtest and add that to your monitoring tool. If you use CDN services like Cloudflare, Quad9 ect they reroute if there is issues which would sometimes seem like latency increased when it's just a reroute that happened.

@AfriNatic when I applied for my fibre account with you, I didn't want to take the router at the time because I didn't want to pay you anything should I want to cancel. Would it be too late to ask for my router now after 9 months
My current router is giving issues.

If you have promotional credit remaining you can still get the router ;)

Hi Afrihost. We have download speed issues at both of our fibre accounts in the West Rand area. We are getting 500mbps instead of 1Gbps. Upload speeds are perfect. Have reset ONT's, routers etc. This was first noticed this morning. Please address this urgently.

Hi,

Can you send me your clientzone email. I want to confirm your line speed.

@AfriNatic I use third party dns for streaming.. when I use them most things route locally like CloudFlare hosted sites but Google's sites dont.

Does Google not announce all it's IP ranges from its nodes in JHB? I'll deal with it being served internationally - prefer to be able to watch Hulu than some latency on gmail - just wondering.

eg: via the dns provider I use
Code:
;; ANSWER SECTION:
mail.google.com. 217237 IN CNAME googlemail.l.google.com.
googlemail.l.google.com. 168 IN A 216.58.198.165

via @1.1.1.1
Code:
;; ANSWER SECTION:
mail.google.com. 604572 IN CNAME googlemail.l.google.com.
googlemail.l.google.com. 72 IN A 216.58.223.133

tracing to 216.58.198.165 goes international but 216.58.223.133 stops in jhb.
