Our fibre is uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled.

That is general limitation. Most of Openserve rollouts are Aerial. With Aerial Openserve there is no trenching and they string it from the pole to the corner of the roof. I have yet to see anyone charged extra cable for these rollouts.

With trenching they only include 8m for free after that they charge. I also have yet to hear about anyone that has been charged extra.

If there is any charges they will advise before they install and provide a quote. There will never be a situation where they ask you for cash before they install and you should never accept demands like that ever.

Thanks I'll try grab one of the guys in the street on Monday and ask whether they trench or go aerial, I actually still have old telephone copper lines running from the pole in to my house so they'll probably follow that same route. I'll actually prefer trenching because it's neater and the cable is protected from falling branches etc. so will see.

P.S. What free wifi router do you guys provide and can I configure it how I like or is it locked? I already have quite a good wifi router, but a second one won't do any harm to help improve coverage threw the entire house.

We supply the Huawei WS5200 router. It's unlocked and it's yours to keep even after you cancel.

What's the typical lead time these days after placing the order for Openserve to come install, then getting up and running? Also will you guys be able to somehow bridge me in terms of billing if moving from fixed LTE to fibre so I don't have to pay for both items in the month I move over?

The Openserve standard lead time applies which is currently 1 week.

We have seen it vary from same day to 4 or 5 days after the order is placed. Once the technician has completed the installation the Fibre line is active and can accept pppoe details. The Huawei WS5200 comes pre configured with our ACS which will pull your pppoe details from the system and apply them automatically and then authenticate you which will activate the account and trigger billing.

With regards to Fixed LTE it's difficult for us to just cancel especially if it's Telkom LTE. We are bound by their terms. With MTN we might in some cases be able to assist if the fibre goes active and you have to cancel in billing run then we might be able to help but I would suggest timing it with your LTE cancellation. With Openserve fibre you are called to arrange an appointment which means you can select a suitable date closer to your LTE cancellation date.

Any particular reason we're routing DBN via JHB for Cloudflare? Telkom aint doin this. It's been like this a while now. Just wish I had noted when I first noticed the higher latency.

EDIT: Seeing the same thing reaching Teraco. With Telkom I get sent to DB1, but with Afrihost I get routed to JHB. Lol, dodgy routing at 169.1.5.204. What on earth is this CGNAT at 100.127.4.176 all about?

Hi there,

Please can you send me your clientzone email via pm so I can have a look for you?

@AfriNatic

When should we expect the Openserve speed increases to kick in? I'm still on 100Mbps, although I see the Clientzone has a 200Mbps package change for the same monthly price. It says the change will only take effect on 31 March though. Do we need to do anything?

My 'change' happened smoothly that's for sure.
R917 got deducted from my debit card this morning at 12:45am.

Screenshot 2021-03-01 at 8.14.59 AM.png

I set my account to downgrade from 100mbps to '50mbps' (to upgraded back to 100mbps again), since I figured there's no point in having 200mbps for only 4 of us at home, other than bragging rights. lol.

All good this side.

I'm still on a 50mbps hopefully afrihost upgrade to 100mbps will be soon

LOL, we're only two at home, but I can't wait to bask in the glory of 200/100mb, even if its overkill :D

I'll probably also downgrade down the line as 100mb is more than enough for my needs :)

Yeap.. It's super nice though, I had 200mbps for 2 months when Afrihost ran the special.... but made no difference day to day stuff VS 100mbps, except when I backed up all my hard disks onto Amazon, the 100mbps upload was great.

And also, it was over December/January when we had lots of family visiting, some also working remotely, so perhaps the upgraded line speed was better utilised.

But I kinda figured, for most devices I only experienced the full ~200mbps if I sit almost on top of the wifi routers.

Both our 4K smart TV's are connected with ethernet, only have 100mbps adapters anyway.
As I work remotely and get bored easily of sitting at one place, I often sit in different areas of the house with my laptop to change a bit of scenery, so I'm using wifi mostly.

As soon as you move too far from the 5ghz signal, it switches to 2.4ghz which struggles to do more than 100mbps in my experience.

I've got 3x gigabit routers meshed - so at least no dead spots and devices switch seamlessly.

I did a speedtest today, saw 50mbps then looked in clientzone:
50Mbps Openserve Pure Fibre

My Invoice was R917 though

Should the old speeds be being reflected ?
