@AfriNatic Since load shedding is here now, I will invest in a UPS but given that I don't have one atm, is there any precautionary measures I should take with the router and/or ONT like turning it off by the plug switch or should I just leave it in?
If you are with Frogfoot, you won't notice the difference.

I mean that when the power goes off, and on and off like that, does it damage the hardware in anyway? and if i switch it off by the plug and manually on once the power comes back does it safeguard the hardware? Or does it not make a difference?
I'm on Openserve, both the router and ONT is plugged in and needs power

With any electronic device it's advisable to unplug or switch off the electronics until the power has returned. You don't want the power supply of the ONT or router to be damaged or worse the entire device.

Oh , you are with Openserve, that means you have internet.

Your ONT is protected by the power supply. If you really worry about the on and off of loadshedding, the best solution is to install a surge protector in your DB board.

MetroFibre has moved all the active links to the correct speeds on the portal however we have noticed that

10 > 25
25> 50
50 > 100

Speed changes have not physically happened yet although it shows as completed on the portal. We expect these to be completed during the course of the day.

All the changes have been completed on our side and once the speed upgrades are done on Metro Fibre side you will get the increased speeds.
Still not seeing and speed upgrades on metrofibre.

Eskom has rebooted my router several times today

The changes has been completed on the portal side already. We suspect that Metro is doing it in a phased approach each day. We are unable to do it manually since the actual profiles has already been changed on Metro Fibre side.

Hi @AfriNatic

I recently got myself a Gizzu mini ups & it worked perfectly for me during load shedding.

It is now the second occasion that my internet is down during load shedding.

The Gizzu powers the router & ONT perfectly.

However I have noticed that the "Broadband & Service" lights are off now during load shedding.

Frogfoot is my fibre network.

Why is this happening? Thanks

We would need to log this with FrogFoot to get feedback on the status of the UPS at the pop. Drop me a pm with your email again so I can log this for you.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out.

I have checked the ONT serial number and it shows an active service with another ISP.

It's likely that Home-Connect did not terminate the service properly. They might have cancelled your PPPoE details but the actual line is still configured for the previous ISP.
Thank you so much for your help my fibre is connected and working now.
I see Vumatel has recorded the street addresses wrong on their system. It might have happened when taking over SADV. They must be losing a lot of new business as coverage shows no fibre when there are hundreds of units.

Not going to sugar coat anything but the SADV to Vuma Villages migration has been an absolute nightmare to ISPs.

Not seeing any network notification, but FF playing up again.

Sketchy connection for the last 1-2 hours it seems.

Hi @AfriNatic is there a way to check if the fibre connection is active during loadshedding? Im on OS. Looking at getting a ups but want to make sure it will work first.

In most cases Openserve does have backup batteries.

You can try to power the ONT and router with a battery to see if they work. Most ONTs and routers are 12v input so you can double check the power requirements and power them on during the next loadshedding slot to see if it works.

Thanks, speed has been upgraded today :), but noticed slowness on websites throughout the day, seems to be a bit better now
