Hi Afrihost.
Quick question. The contractors completed the installation of Fibre at my complex on Tuesday. They stated that they had 1 more building which they were also completing on Tuesday and then they just gonna do some testing then Openserve will take the area live.
How long after installation in the area does it take for Openserve to take the area live?

Hi,

It depends. Sometimes the area goes live very quickly but then even after it shows live on the map the orders don't progress as expected.

Once it does go live you can get an order in and take it from there.

Metro Fibre has informed us of a network issue affecting Gauteng, affected clients will experience degraded service. MetroFibre engineers are working on resolving this issue as soon as possible. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I can completely understand a timeout every 10 minutes or so, but this is ultimately fibre and currently performing worse than my mobile 4G connection.

For some perspective. This morning I had basically no timeouts whatsoever, I saw maybe 2 timeouts in over 5 hours. Then like clockwork, as the day progressed things started getting worse. At 15:00 this afternoon timeouts were getting a bit worse:

Close to 16:00 I started seeing increased timeout and at that points any VOIP or P2P services were unusable with frequent interrupts:

Then at exactly 16:16 I saw massive timeout spikes happening, note how my pings to my router (black area) are not timing out, the timeouts are happening from fibre to my router:

And this is currently what I'm experiencing.

These timeouts used to happen only during the evening a few weeks ago, it's now happening more frequently throughout the day and I'm forced to use my mobile connection for work and other tasks since my fibre becomes completely unusable. I can't see how MetroFibre considers this normal

Metro has done some ping tests from Teraco JHB to the ONT and they are not seeing any loss on the link today.

We are still investigating.

Metrofibre has recently finished with their fibre installation in my area , when I checked on their website coverage map , it shows my area is live but when I check on Afrihosts website , the map is still telling me to preorder and that it's not live as yet , any help ?

It might just be our map that is a bit late.

You can place the order and send me a pm with the account details so I can manually place the order for you.

@AfriNatic

I don't know if you would be able to help me but for a while now I am not able to watch live streams on the site Twitch.tv above 720p on my 100mb line my international speed seems good(will attach) I have done a Trace using WinMTR directly to my ONT without Router interference (will attach) everything else site wise doesn't seem to a problem but twitch buffers above 720p

Speedtest shows some loss but could just be wifi. Who is the Fibre network Operator that you are using?

Where are you watching twitch tv on? If you are using a computer it would be great if you can open resource manager and see which server is actually serving you the video so we can get some trace routes to it and see how that looks like.

Looking at my connection streaming a 1080p stream in the browser it peaks at about 7.2Mbps.

Vumatel Aerial I believe.
I did do all the testing on a desktop pc over a lan connection except the speed test which I did over mobile wifi but now i am noticing that the PC Speedtest vastly differs from the mobile connected to the same connection. will attach pc speed test and another mobile speed test.

Are you using Windows?

Are you using Windows?

Yes I am.
Also Attaching what I think is the server through resource monitor and the twitch player this is as high as it goes it doesn't keep up the buffer size if I go higher than that quality.

Please run the below command as administrator and then reboot pc and try again.

Code:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Windows tcp scaling. When your line has an issue or there is some form of loss windows tunes accordingly but when the line improves it keeps it at that setting causing slow throughput even if the line is perfectly fine.

Thanks again if I ever have any more problems I will come post back here ^^

Thank you very much for the time you took to investigate this for us. Much appreciated. As you stated the timeouts were almost completely gone yesterday, which is great. This morning I experienced a few more timeouts but seems a bit more stable now.

Hoping the stability continues. Thanks again for looking into this.

Let me know when you experience drops again so I can get Metro Noc to look at the link when you experience the issues.
