Hi,
So I'm also having the Youtube blues like everyone else and it also seems as if it mostly happens after 18:00 and come right late at night.
But I'm also having a few other issues. It seems as if things just isn't as fast as it should be. I'm on 200/200 Afrihost on Metrofibre using the Nokia ONT (Northern Pretoria). Ubuntu ISOs are slow to download. Other stuff also seems to not getting even close to the full download speed. Sometimes it bursts to full speed and then slows down. I know the service is best effort but these issues only started happening recently.
This is a trace with pingplotter to
www.ubuntu.com
What bugs me most is the packet loss to my gateway at 102.182.84.1. ( Line issue ? Somewhere between ONT and OLT ?)
This is a speed test now at almost 23:30 (it is a 200/200 line)
In morning, at around 7:00, I get almost full speed again. I know, as I said, it is a best effort service but I mostly get full speed or close to it. Performance is significantly worse than what it was.
I'm usually using my Mikrotik router but I've also tried using the Afrihost supplied AX3, same results. Tried power cycling ONT/Routers/etc. All my stuff runs on mini DC LiFeSO4 UPSes, so it never goes off. Checked the cables.
Another thing I've noticed is:
Today I couldn't open up
www.fnb.co.za when using my Mikrotik. But when using the AX3, for which another IP is assigned, it is successful. Strange. Some kind of routing issue ?
