Outage Update
2022-06-01
-- ME and IP Core teams are investigating.
-- Services have begun to restore. Please monitor links for stability.
-- Another event has occurred and we have escalated this to IP core to investigate further.

Anyone else picking up on the Frogfoot outage trend being on the increase as of late? Never was this bad back in 2019/2020.

Before I lived in Stellenbosch in a Vumatel neighbourhood. In the two years I had Vumatel there I only had a single outage. And I always got my line speed.

Now I live in Welgevonden and is covered by Frogfoot. So far I've had an outage every single week. And I've never had anything close to line speed.

At both sites I used Afrihost.

Yip... FF is the worst. Never got line speed out of them (200/500/1000) 1000 I can accept , but then downgrading to 500 I couldn't get speeds that I had on 1000, which was above 500 at the time :) It's never their fault or config, and you have to jump through hoops before they'll even consider to look at it. Went back to Openserve, and my life is fine again :D

I signed up in 2019 with Cool Ideas - never had issues.

Moved to Afrihost last year and things were OK but as of late there has been one FF issue after the other.

Lucky you that you can choose. I'd love to move to a different fibre provider, but we don't have a choice. It's either Frogfoot or ADSL.

I'm not going to blame the ISP. Afrihost on Vumatel/SADV/Openserve works great.

Yeah, I have no issues with Afrihost and the support is excellent - that matters most to me. But something over at FF is not right. I am not sure if they had some key network engineers quit or something, but it is a far cry from what it used to be in terms of stability.

Unfortunately here in Welgevonden we are on the wrong side of the hill in terms of 5G coverage.

Is there an issue with Vumatel in the East Rand? Things started grinding to a halt about half an hour ago. Some sites wont load, ping is erratic and this is after a restart of the CPE and router.

Hi,

I'm not seeing a general notice for the area but can you drop me a pm with your email so I can have a look?

For those in the Western Cape on FF:
Important Notice RE: Western and Eastern Cape Regional Instability We are aware of the ongoing outages that have affected our network in the Western and Eastern Cape. Frogfoot identified that the CPT equipment experienced events that caused regional interruptions. *thread*
We are currently in communication with the current vendor and escalation points to trace the route cause and confirm remedial actions, however, this involves a detailed process of extracting logs and reviewing with engineering teams.
We have scheduled remedial action this evening which will commence at 23:00. Frogfoot would like to assure all customers that this is receiving critical attention within the Frogfoot Team with every effort to resolve as soon as possible.

Frogfoot is pure garbage, someone should get into the areas in competition and take them out.

edit: Just figured it out, FF is owned by Vox and that explains plenty.

Well my last ISP before FTTH was Vox on 40mbps VDSL. Worked pretty well but absolutely no support and emails went unanswered.

I had ADSL thro Afrihost before FF FTTH, the ADSL was great, very Seldom had an issue.

18 months I called Vox for a quote on hosting and email, I’m still waiting for the call back…. Afrihost sorted me out in 20 minutes. I’ve got no issue with Afrihost’s service, my issue is constant faults on the FF network in my area, sadly this is dragging Afrihost into the mud and honestly Afrihost should step up and give FF a kick 8n the ass.

So I wrote a rather stinking email to FF and got this back :

Good day

Thank you for contacting us.

Please note that the impact experienced was a re-occurrence of the software
anomaly we have been experiencing on CPT Core Routers. Our Core engineers have
raised this fault as a P1 to our vendors and who are investigating to determine
the root cause. We are currently waiting on feedback from the vendor.

The fault is being treated with the utmost urgency and has been escalated to
the Frogfoot Executive as well as the vendor's regional manager to assist with
the escalation.

Apologize for the Inconvenience.
