Looks like Akamai in CPT decided to call it a night causing a huge traffic shift to JHB and subsequently internationally.

We have moved traffic around as best we can. Latency dropped but there is still a bit of loss. It's a lot of traffic to deal with. Stop downloading steam games lol :laugh:

On a serious note sorry for the issue we are trying to get is sorted asap.

Big ass Apex update came out tonight as well, that certainly doesn't help.

Yes everything served by Akamai.

Disney, DStv, EA games, Steam downloads etc

It's starting to recover but the traffic levels are still extremely high so I would imagine all ISPs are hitting Akamai with all this traffic so it will still be degraded.

Akamai is quite a big content distributor. They serve traffic for EA Games, Steam, DSTV Now, Disney+ and many more. They have quite a large precence here in South Africa. We have caches for them in all regions but last night they decided due to an issue that they will rather have ISP's get the traffic from international sources rather than locally.

This and the probably the new Apex legends patch cause a massive spike in traffic to international and it was the highest we have ever seen.

I believe the issue should be resolved today but we will engage with Akamai to see what the issues is.
 
Internet passed out for a moment but has regained consciousness now. All vital signs looking good so far. :eek: :notworthy: :thumbsup: If any sudden changes, will contact Dr. @AfriNatic .:sneaky:
