Any news on the DDOS vulnerability for vumatel/afrihost? we still getting dos every now and again.

Vumatel closed the tickets and afrihost website states fixes implmented, but no improvment here....
Interesting I saw some of your old posts and it seemed to tie in with what I see (just tons of trash unicast being spewed out)
Why do you think its a DDOS? I guess if there was a flood some routers start to broadcast all ports. Is that why?
Or did you get some kind of confirmation of that being an issue?

Are you in CPT by chance?
I'm being CRIPPLED by this, and I've no idea if I'll survive a week with Afrihost if this keeps up :D

I don't think its DDOS .. actually know it is

they did stop the original DDOS since Tuesday for our vlan via FW, but the basic vulnerability still exist and easy to exploit. I've shown afrihost many times now how todo it, but so far no luck on getting it fixed

Web africa we saw the same unicast traffic, as well as on mweb. all on old SADV / vumatel switch.

Based in Stellenbosch, but somerset west share the same VLAN so we see same issues when exploit is run

If you maybe have sniffer, and you can see the STP traffic from the ONT, on which VLAN are you (its in one of the STP packets normally) ?

If you wanne test the vulnerability on your fibre, you welcome to DM me, not going to publish how to bring down full VLAN as yet publicly ;-)

In Bayview, Strandfontein (Mitchells Plain) on Openserve and getting half my download speed.

Any issues? Nothing I can find on the App.

This looks like an Ethernet cable or port issue.

Make sure the cable is plugged in property and 1Gbps full duplex is negotiated and not 100Mbps.

So now that I have had monitors running on my line 24/7 for a few days. Could you please let me know why the hell you guys are dropping my connections every few minutes?
Amazing what logging and capturing logs over time can reveal. This time I will be following through with the ISPA complaint.
To note I have already done the testing with Octotel so no more excuses.

youtube still a issue? we just buffering

Same! What’s up with that? Been flaky for at least a week for me. On and off but when it’s off there is little that is more irritating. We unlikely to get any feedback till afrinatic is back from leave.

Sounds like you're facing the same issue I am. Octotel CPT?
I get totally disconnected for a anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute, a few times an hour.

What do you see?

What area are you guys in? Seems to be southern suburbs? I'm in green point + octotel and no issues.
I'm near Rondebosch. Not sure if they have different VLANs in different areas.
My connection is generally good. The ping is low, the throughput is high.
But if I monitor it closely, it'll drop for 30sec-1minute once or twice an hour.
If I am just doing web browsing or watching some Netflix/YouTube, I never notice, because the buffers etc are enough to ride it out.

Fire up a call, or game, or work activity, and thats another story.

It'd be interesting to see if you ran a persistint ping/mtr for a few hours if you see it too, just didnt notice.

Each ISP has a vlan (so that correct IP's can be allocated via ppoe or dhcp) , and then they bunch certain areas together on 1 vlan . guess depending on user count , who did orginal install etc. (this is my rudmentary understanding).

you might be able to see the STP traffic showing the vlan if you sniff traffic direct on the ONT with wireshark or something (our vlans here all show it)

Nope, not on Octotel at least.
When I was doing captures over the weekend I made sure and I see no STP traffic coming out of the ONT port.

In another post I see @AfriNatic said he's off and @AfriGuy was the stand-in. But maybe we're just doomed now :)

Maybe @Afrihost-Gian could kick some butt to get someone in the social team to wake up?
Yeah, we just have to wait for Afrinatic to come back to the office :(

If Afrinatic leaves afrihost. Then im jumping ship to CISP the very next month

I was considering it due to these YouTube issues lately. But I see some guys on cisp are experiencing it too. Which takes me back to what I've always maintained. 90% of our performance issues are FNO related, not ISP...
