Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

After battling for how long now to get my Pure Fibre (Vodacom) order completed and working I have just decided I will cancel with Afrihost and pay any penalties (I don't care how much) and contract directly with Vodacom.

It is just fr@#!@#! riducoulous.

I have had a good journey with Afrihost, but this is the last straw.

Godd bye!

Morning,

Sorry for the issues you are experiencing.

Can you send me a private message with your email address for me to instigate the matter for you?

Github down for anyone else?

Works fine when pinging from my AWS server, but locally the site and pinging from laptop seems dead. Not sure if local issue, or ISP issue.

Using Cloudflare..

Will switch to default DNS to compare.

You can use the nslookup command to see if it a DNS issue.

nslookup github.com

that will use the DNS you have set and then you can specify DNS

nslookup github.com 169.1.1.1

or

nslookup github.com 8.8.8.8

to check our DNS and Google DNS.

cool turns out Cloudflare DNS broken. seems to be working now on Afrihost DNS.
You shouldn't steer away from ISP DNS to get the best routes towards content nodes and caches that they are closer to, anything they've implimented on a DNS level gets skipped by you, and can in the worst case, provide you with less of an experience.

Thanks!
Yes, I really have no issues with ISP's DNS and for general browsing, I agree Afrihost's DNS is certainly way more optimised.

However, the main reason I've been using Cloudflare DNS is that domains get propagated a touch faster / frequently (at least in my experience), and since I work with servers and nginx configs, a lot, it made sense to make it my DNS.

But other that, I agree, no reason to favour Cloudflare / Google DNS over ISP DNS - unless they are really bad.

Im also experiencing issues with github. Rest of the net works well. Git clones at a measly 5 kb/s, sometimes it goes waaaaaaay up. Its also very frustrating.

I have not changed any DNS settings, although Im on IPv 6 (but it was slow even before I changed to IPv6

Hi,

Doesn't seem to be a general issue. I have been testing on a few connections but all of them has been fast and I was unable to replicate the issue.

Are you doing the git cloning on a windows machine?

Here is ping and traceroute: (Traceroute took ages to complete)
