This seems to be an awesome price for an already great product.

I am very tempted to move from my 10 gig to the 4mbs uncapped

Could you please let us know when you will consider abuse and to what length the customer will be throttled when they start to abuse the line.

I have already pushed 70Gb over the last 3 weeks and have seen no degradation in my speed through-put. Got a 4Mbps line and speedtest.net is telling my that I am get 3.8Mbps

So Afrihost's new FUP appears to way better than it ever was before.

Except Afrihost isn't known for their quality uncapped service. Now with reducing 4meg prices so low there's no chance of improved quality of service.

So you are not even going to give it a try even if there is a double-your-money back guarantee. Interesting!
 
There exists a memory fresh in my mind where Uncapped account for under R400 was stuff only the rich countries were familiar with.

I am starting to think there will come a time where per gigabyte pricing model collapses, only sustained by gamers who need unshaped. Maybe that time is now.

Exactly...when people moan about MWeb's quality I look on in confusion because my line is exactly the same. And I rarely, if ever, experience shaping with torrents and the like - even in the day.
 
However, Afrihost said that it will initially only make 500 4Mbps accounts available to new clients to assess the sustainability of the new pricing.

I am currently on a Web Africa account where I pay R499 per month for 30GB/100GB night time including my 4MB line rental. I have been really tempted to move over to uncapped but until the line rental comes down I don't think it is worth my while.

Where do you rent your line for so cheap? Best I have found is RSAWeb for 350...

+1 The devil you know and all that. I unfortunately have no confidence in the SA Uncapped "Home" accounts. I have not found any uncapped account which is not limited in one way or another, or in other words, it is only uncapped if you use it for whatever the ISP allows. This might be good for some, but useless to others.

Those are grey and murky waters and would find any explanation hard to believe, but i suppose there is a first time for everything.
 
I hope those who get the 500 accounts dont go thinking its open season or something. If you all do that afrihost wont be able to continue the pricing which would suck donkey balls, or whatever the kids are saying these days. :)

I'm thinking 150 - 200 gigs on the 4meg should be fine.
 
This decrease is really fantastic, but it doesn't help when only ISP's compete with each other. The line rental for 4mb is still pretty steep.

Telkom the ball is in your court.
