Speeds on Afrihost news server last night at +- 10pm were terrible - 10kb/s. I had to use a turboboost in order to do anything.

This isn't right.

Can someone explain to me what "Protocol Prioritisation" is, why should this be applied? even on business uncapped?

Does afrihost shape gaming?

We ran some tests on our side on the news server and got normal speeds. Sounds like this was due to shaping on your account if you had to use Turbo Charge :(

We get a lot of complaints from Business DSL users who actually use it for offices or companies. Becuase it is unshaped, priority is determined at local network level. If they don't use their own firewall or internet exchange, if one user is torrenting or using any P2P service, the entire network becomes slow. For these clients, it's a great feature to optimise their DSL performance for their business purposes - after all they are the ones paying for it - without having to invest in additional equipment and staff to manage the network.

For others not wanting the feature for their purposes, it can be deactivated. Or if you do own a small business, but want to torrent at night when the staff go home, you can activate/deactivate in ClientZone.

Yeah. The shaping is so bad my 4meg uncapped line is competing with 56k modems.

That should only be on non-realtime services though. If other services are affected then we may need to look further into this :(

Netflix bombs out constantly. Youtube buffers on 720p. I've raised this before unfortunately.

EDIT: Only thing that works well is online gaming.

So when using this function... what are your options, do you get to select a particular protocol or ?

I do hope this isnt true, perhaps it could be something on your side. I am planning to jump to Afrihost to watch Hulu, MWeb shapes it during the day on their network and its disgusting.

This is definitely not the norm so we'll need to test specifically on your connection to determine the unique factors.

Drop me a PM

We don't shape any realtime services ever. So Hulu and Netflix always get priority.

Hey - just saw this thread --> http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/586974-Netflix-Problems-the-last-2-3-days

What risami describes is exactly my problem, but he is on telkom ISP. Do you think it is a telkom network problem?

We don't use the same overseas cables as Telkom, as far as I know. If they're having issues, we haven't been notified of any effect on our network. However, if the problem is international traffic on an exchange level, which I'm not sure would be the case, then that the issue (or part of it). Just speculating though :(

How would that be tested?

Hi Afri*

I am currently on a 4mb Uncapped Package, my line only sync's at 2.5-3mb. I would like to move to a 2mbps business account. Both products are R397. Is there any possible way I could change packages without waiting till February?

Thanks
Oliver
