Did you just recreate the port or hit the magically fix my line?
Drop me a PM and I'll up your line quickly.

I used the Magically fix my line option but as you said recreate the port it reminded me of this issue last time. I have done a port recreation, it says this:

Port Re-Create Failed
Port recreate request submitted. If your modem does not disconnect and then synchronise with the exchange now, it may help to try again in 40 minutes time..
If you continue to have issues please contact us.

I'll check again in an hour.

The fix my line feature fixes your line by stabilising it, could be that your stats are off and not able to sync at a higher, stable speed.

meh...

first things first downloading some software which comes to about 15GB... Set it up on uTorrent with scheduling (so I don't get shaped to crap.)

Basically im running at 125kb 50% of the time between 6am and 10pm. 10pm till 6am is running full speed. i'm already being shaped to 6% on p2p... at about 67% complete. download has been running since about 8pm last night.

THe other thing is i've been trying to access some of the live Microsoft virtual academy streams and even on SD i get a lot of buffering on my 2Meg line.... Ive had to just forget about watching it and wait till the provide the downloadable content..

Our shaping isn't based on your individual usage but rather the overall network load.
This shouldn't affect latency though, do you have a traceroute I can look at?

Very strange.
Are you able to replicate this on another account or the Telkom guest account?

Did it again using my WA acc (just used a dialup conn)

Not sure if it's the connection that's being made, but now the router is timing out. I'm baffled o.0

He's connecting via a bridge, which would bypass the router and "turn" the first hop into the second hop.

Z :)

Nope. Bridges are at layer 2, they will not show up on a traceroute.

More likely the ESR for the ISP he's dialed up to does not respond to ICMP.

Yup - that's what I mean :) His router is being bypassed completely as it is turning into a layer 2 device - therefore his first hop would be the hop after the router :P

I'm guessing you're testing over WiFi - cos I see 3ms to your router, which is pretty poor. I'm not sure if that has influenced the tests.

Your second hop should never be over 30ms, so there could be a line fault or exchange congestion at work here. Have you been able to test on another network, like using the Telkom Guest account (guest@telkomadsl password guest)?

i have 27 ADSL lines it never was an problem it started 2 nights ago so line fault are out of the problem coz its all the lines

@Afriman

Good Day

I've been a dedicated user at afrihost for 4 years now, I've never had major issues, I'm a rather active gamer in FPS, mmo and moba's.
Quick question and a note
1. Games - Most games work exellent on Afrihost this ranges from most FPS to mmo's to moba's
- only game with a issue is Wildstar, with the in game MS tool it shows a good 160 ms, but with a third party tool we are getting 400 + ms on a EU based server. now we tested last night with a mweb account - ping was below 180 ms to EU server.

Is there perhaps a routing issue fro afrihost to EU based servers ? for wildstar specifically ?

Regards

thats the same problem with me i never had any problem with wow all of an sudden the last 2 day my ping start of at 180 then like 10min later its 3000+ i did not have the time yet to test another isp. when i have the time and the problem are with AH then i am moving all 27 account i have with them to someone ells...

Mine was since game release I think the shaping on downloads may be affecting wildstar connection. Will only be able to confirm this when my turboboost resets the end of the month.

So you're saying that you're getting the same results on 27 lines. Are they all in the same location, or connecting from the same area?

It would be hard to say without seeing what the routing is exactly. If you can get a ping test, you should be able to get an IP address you can trace to and give us more details to work with.

Would also be great if you can confirm that this server does not use any P2P aspects for their game traffic.

Drop me a PM and we'll see what can be done.

Realised something the other day. Referral links eg "go.afrihost.com/####" have stopped working.

Any reason for this Afri*?

Examples in sig

Edit: Nevermind, suddenly working

Hi AfriMan,

Hope you can help, I have been with Afrihost now for about 2 years, never a issue,

I have a Telkom line that always used to sync at 10Mbps down and 1Mbps down, and I would consistently get over 8.5 downloads on speedtest.net.

Since about 2 weeks ago, I have had issues with my connection,
1) Lots of CRC errors on received packets
2) SNR of 6
3) www.speedtest.net gives between 1Mbps and 5Mbps.

I logged a call with Afrihost and telkom came out and changed my line speed to 8Mbps down and got a SNR of 12 for a while.

Now on 8Mbps my SNR is down again to 6-8 and all kinds of speed issues again.

The response from Telkom is the same junk of "upto" 10Mbps, but that does not explain why it worked for 2 years perfectly and from about 2 weeks ago it does not work... something must have changed somewhere.

Can you help?
Robert
