Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Hi there everyone, so I just saw that I can finally get 20mbps vdsl! Wohooo... I am currently with another ISP but have thought about moving back here when the capacity issues are sorted out.

That being said...

Anyone out there with a 20mbps VDSL uncapped product from Afrihost? Hopefully the bundle (as that is what I would probably go for).

If there is anyone, what is the speed like? Downloads? http? torrents? speed tests?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

If I had 20Meg VDSL I'd just get a high capped account to be honest. Would be much cheaper.

Depends on how much data you want to move. If you want to do 400GB+, then a bundle is a good plan. All depends on your preference. Probably a good idea to make use of Double Data for now and save the Randelas :)

Shaping

So, when can we expect shaping to be let off?
Its been months and its still 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P, you have said that you would look into whats the hold-up, but you have not replied.

This is taking way too long, its ridiculous, give a definite answer when the IPC capacity will be in.

We're still slowly releasing capacity so that we don't over-stress the network and cause latency problem. I know MTN are also performing some maintenance so they want to be as cautious as possible. I think it's probably best, at least we know that contention should not be an issue and realtime services are working as they should be, and we'll start looking at shaping less where we can as we optimise the network with the new upgrade.

Just a heads up for everyone

I am not entirely sure how shaping works , I'm not at afrihost atm but if I were to move and my p2p and dl speeds are shaped to the ground , will netflix still be able to stream in good quality all the time or will it be a case of waiting till after 19h00 to start watching ?

We can't guarantee that services like Netflix, Hulu etc can be unshaped due to the workarounds and 3rd party methods :( Generally speaking though, even if shaping is being applied to your account realtime services are never shaped.

Ok that's cool , now I just have to wait 50 days then I can move :(
