Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

We're technically not at full international capacity while EASSy is still on a restoral path, though I am told we should be getting pretty much our usual full throughput. There does seem to be latency introduced on this path, which I have noticed a few people mentioning here and there. I don't have an ETR as yet on full restoration. I am told we are also running some capacity on SAT-3 now (as Seacom based ISPs have now moved back) so we're hoping to get everything as close to normal as possible until EASSy is all the way back up.

Hi Afriman, how much would an uncapped 2mb line and data bundle cost? Do I have to keep my telkom adsl line or can I move that to Afrihost as well?

Thanks, soz for stupid question btw. Noob here

This is local 4mbps in Cape Town (southern suburbs):

Test conducted on Thu Apr 04 2013 22:18:29 GMT+0200 (CAT)

Download Speed: 880 kbps (110 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 405 kbps (50.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 91 ms

Unfortunately, this is pretty much the norm in the evenings here. Complaints seem to fall on deaf ears. Daytime speeds are good, so it's not a router or line issue.

And my account is currently not "shaped".

The 2Mbps Bundle (including data and ADSL line) is R497. You can move your line to us and sign up for the bundle immediately. We'll only charge you for the line part once it transfers accross from Telkom.

Hi Afriman

Twitch.tv is lagging really badly tonight.

Are other streaming services also having issues for you? Was watching One Direction videos on YouTube (blech, my teenage niece's choice) but they were playing smoothly without buffering.

And that is the package I wanted to go for :(

If our network was getting congested, you would still be getting full realtime speeds, only torrents and file sharing would be affected. Speedtests should get full speeds. Is it possible that there is congestion on your exchange?

It could be the exchange, I guess, but this doesn't really look like it:

Think it might have been Twitch. Smoothed out now.

Well, I took the plunge. Switched over from my 10mbps 50GB Gold Capped to 4mb Uncapped just now. I'm really hoping this turns doesn't turn out to be a mistake.

@Afriman, I've noticed that my data allocation from my capped account is still available to use. Does that mean I'll be getting 10mbps speeds until that data runs out, an then only be switched to 4mbps? Also, are there any hidden charges to this move? Clientzone didn't prompt or warn me about any charges, but I'm always a little edgy about these things.

I would need to check. If you're upgrading to a lower Rand value package, it would only take effect at the end of the month. Otherwise it does take some time for your new policy to register with the network management.

Drop me a PM :)

Strange problem! All 24 my afrihost account are not loading any sites, except youtube and google, been on support for 30minutes, Blaming it on telkom, and blah blah, Use the same 2 telkom lines on mweb and openweb, and everything works!

We'll need to get a closer look at this. If it's on 24 accounts on two lines, that's pretty concerning.

Please DM me when you :(

Hey Guys

Some great news! There's a new sherriff in town!

I'm really happy to introduce my new MyBB co-rep, AfriGirl. We were gonna call her DangerouslyAddictedToTheInternetWoman, but that seemed less practical.

Please be your usual awesome selves. She's here to help and make sure that all our clients here on MyBB get info and answers around the clock. Please feel free to throw lots of questions at her, she's pretty jacked up when it comes to all things Afrihost!

Yay, now I can start hitting the pub early :)
