Hi I stay in Cape Town Lansdowne area. About to switch ISP's potentially AfriHost. Anyone staying in the area using AfriHost? What's your line speed like? Does the line drop a lot? Let me know please. I'm thinking the 4mb bundle (subscription+line). Thanks

I meant my connection didn't tank at 11pm. It totally died that time the previous four evenings.

I assume it has to be a Telkom thing, otherwise more people would be affected? Have you posted your line stats?

Hi Bryn26

Are you still experiencing problems? The Somerset West issue is still being dealt with, no eta on when it will be resolved. You mentioned the dead connections, when did these start occurring?

My connection totally died at 11pm for four consecutive evenings before yesterday. Last night was fine though. The Afrihost Dev Team PM'd me for more info and will presumably get back to me at some point.

Greetings All

We've come up with another way to notify Telkom of the Somerset West issue. We'd like to give Telkom an estimate of the number of people affected so what we need from you guys are your numbers.
Please private message Afrigirl (me) with your username and ADSL line number if you're affected and we'll pass on all the details to the relevant people.

Thank you

I'd wait until they fix the problems on Essay cable (notice on the site) I just cancelled my capped account after 5 days as it's not performing in the evening. Other ISPs are working fine that I tested (Mweb,IS). I'm sure they'll come right eventually. I'm not patient enough.

Hi Afrigirl

Why was there no assistance for those of us who live in Durbanville? I had to do it all myself which included countless emails, faxes etc to Telkom directly.

I am still looking for an answer as to why at night my local traffic is fine but international is slower than snails? It seems that no one is interested in assisting?

Unfortunately, I was not aware of the Durbanville situation. Obviously if an issue similar to the Somerset West issue arises again, we'll help out as much as we can. Sorry for that.
With regards to the international speeds, I think the Dev team is looking into why that happened. Moment we get an answer, we'll tell you.

Great news!

Apparently there was an issue with a network card at the exchanges, causing all Somerset west and strand issues!

The card has been replaced (if my info is correct) and the Internet is back to normal :D

I can't seem to find the notice. Also I can't go ISP hopping for much longer. If I'm going with AH in the next month or two I might as well start now. I too am impatient.

Maybe you can give a decent answer to when EASSy will be back to working 100 percent or not down for emergency maintainace.

Thank you for your feedback. As you can understand it can be frustrating, will monitor and see how it goes

Anyone else in the Somerset West area seeing an improvement?

I really don't have an exact answer for you. As Afriman mentioned, EASSy is undergoing some maintenance once everything is sorted the green light will return.

The lack of feedback from EASSy is really terrible. Least you guys are trying even with the amount of k@k people like me give you.

What can I expect when it comes to Afrihost's throttling/shaping on 2Mb uncapped? Would doing 100 - 150Gb a month be considered alot?
