Th idiot women told me that its because I am a gamer that is why my ping is high. I had to explain to her what latency and congestion means.

Holy s**t that's dumb. Just exercise the patience of a saint and relieve her of her ignorance. Or ask for someone more knowledgeable.

@ Bar_Rat. I applied to move my line to AH from Telkom on Tuesday and it went through today. Now AH must just bump me up from a 2mb line to 4mb :D

Is MTN open peering with the other ISPs that agreed to this? Is there any word from them on this point? It has been a while since I heard anything on this subject.

My understanding is they do peer with large ISP openly, with the exception of Telkom & Vodacom.

I see they have a presence at JINX, CINX & Terco Durban..... So I am assuming they do some sort of open peering where mutually beneficial (they save money)

The Play Store is so slow for me that my notification tray says 27 hours remain for my 800MB download (should be less than one hour). This is totally unacceptable. The Play Store isn't nearly as bad on other wifi connections. Youtube is also appalling. Afrihost told me a few days ago that they're looking into performance relating to Google services, but that's of no help to me now. Google services should be a very high priority for any ISP anywhere in the world.

I have a question to Afrihost. I know there is congestion on my Exchange but please explain why I am still able to access local sites and get at least 1.5Mb on Speedtest but international is slow once again?

Been like this for a week and I am starting to believe its not just congestion.

My general download speeds are fine, but Youtube is useless. Epic buffering on 480p. All my rage...

So my download speed to a number of US servers is currently 1mbps, max I got was to a Wisconsin server, 4Mbps, but mostly 1-2....and I'm paying for a 10mbps account....no shaping has been applied...Not happy with this at all.

EDIT: And just as I post this I get an invoice from Afrihost, for my 10mbps bundle...

My performance on my 6Mbps business uncapped is unusable. I've had to reset my router about 4 times a day the last 2 or 3 days. Upon resetting, my speed starts at just over 3Mbps and gradually decreases to what amounts to not having a connection. Apparently this means my router is stuffed - I have an expensive Linksys that's two years old.

I don't have access to another router to test, so I'm going to buy another one on Monday. If the problems persist I think I'll change ISP to avoid murdering someone.

Another major, MAJOR issue for me is Afrihost's poor performance across all the Google services. Even with consistently good general speeds, this is starting to make my Afrihost experience very unpleasant. I used to download from the Play Store at over 400KB/s on Mweb, and Youtube was never an issue. Now I can't download any big apps, because the downloads will time out at 10-30KB/s, and I find myself having to download every single Youtube video I want to watch in acceptable quality.

Also get far below par international speeds again at the mo'. With EASSy being down - ostensibly for testing - I think Afrihost's alternate routing is totally overburdened.

I still wouldn't much like paying another ISP, but I do hope the trust I have of EASSy's restoration solving these issues isn't misplaced.

I presume you have PM'ed Afrigirl? Over what time period does your connection deteriorate? Access although part of Afrihost is based in PE. I would get a pay as you go account from pick n pay and try that out. I would also try the Telkom Test account. If they all bomb out then yes line or modem .

IMHO EASY is still down................
