Give Afrihost time.. Sure they'll sort it out

Can you guys please give me some feedback regarding speeds of the 384k line. Axxess people complaining they get only 10kbit/s with torrents and 20kbit/s via http. It seems afrihost is shaping the least? Got a 10gig account atm. i am going to download like +-30 gigs max a month cuz i am mostly away on business but i am not going to leave the pc on the whole time to download.

depends, business hours i get about 10kbps on torrents but after midnight it can jump to 30+

So how much money are you willing to pay till they get it right?

while I am on Mweb Uncapped, I continue to keep my 2GB Capped AH account. I'll probably hardly use it, but in the capped space I like them.

I'm mostly an browsing user with predominantly downloads from youtube etc. 384 service has been great so far. Noticed slow torrent speeds when I needed to download some stuff from there but didn't try it after hours. so far so good.

Afrihost slow this morning.....anyone in Bellville or Cape Town with the same problem?

Torrent speeds were terrible this weekend on the 384 line

384 uncapped Rocks! Browsing is faster, torrents the same at night, day time a little slower, but then my pc is off during the day to save electricity.

Afrihost, you rock!

torrents, for me, are dead now... 0.5kb/s

they were alright yesterday though after hrs...200kb/s

now only browsing works, international sites ok.

nervously reaching the first 30 gb today sometime..

what happens exactly ?

speed halved ?

this is such bull****

on the capped service i could manage 40-50 kb/s....even high as 70 kb sometimes during office hrs.

so i'm paying for something i can use fully half the time.

When I signed for uncapped no mention were made of 60GB usage.....throttle=capped

"Hi Adonis ,

Thank you for your email:)

Our accounts are semi-shaped during business hours; meaning priority will be given to services such as web browsing & email.
You might experience slower speeds on other services such as torrents during business hours; but there is no shaping after hours.

Furthermore; the Afrihost uncapped solutions {if this applies to you} are designed to give great results for the first 60GB of usage, but after that Afrihost will shape or throttle the service to protect other users on the network.

You will still be able to use your account and it will never be capped, but it will not be as fast as our capped accounts at that point. Our capped accounts are designed for users who require continuous downloads 24 hours a day.

The uncapped service is relatively new and we will be looking at how we can improve these thresholds as more clients join our network.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards."

*sigh*

So I still cannot authenticate since Sunday. Called Afrihost this morning, they knew nothing about any issues. The guy I spoke to went to speak to his manager, and came back with great surprise reporting that I am not the only one experiencing this problem. He would phone me back in ten minutes. That was about an hour ago.

Well i did get this email last week ( 1 April), so i assume it's the same issue

1. Username & Password Authentication errors

Our Radius servers that authenticate our clients' ADSL
usernames and passwords experienced a combination of
problems starting late yesterday afternoon. A backup program
initially slowed the servers down which led to random
authorisations being dropped. Thereafter another problem
relating to a database query used when validating a client
led to more authorisations being refused. Our Developers
have resolved this problem.

If you are still having problems please switch your ADSL
router off for 10 seconds or so and try again. If this does
not fix the problem then please let us know.

I tried that when it dropped on Friday to no avail. Didn't even bother trying to get hold of Afrihost support over the long weekend ... you know how that would have worked out. Anyway, two hours later Afrihost's support got back to me and told me that they had sorted out the problem, so we are up and running again.

Today was only the second time I have had to deal directly with their support since I moved to Afrihost when they started their R29/GB specials. Both occasions have left me wholeheartedly unimpressed with their support. The product is great when it just works, which is most of the time. It's a bit of a nightmare when something DOESN'T work. :(
