Received this reply from Afrihost earlier, will terminate their uncapped end of April 2010 this is bulls***
When I signed for uncapped no mention were made of 60GB usage.....throttle=capped

Quote:
"Hi Adonis ,

Thank you for your email:)

Our accounts are semi-shaped during business hours; meaning priority will be given to services such as web browsing & email.
You might experience slower speeds on other services such as torrents during business hours; but there is no shaping after hours.

Furthermore; the Afrihost uncapped solutions {if this applies to you} are designed to give great results for the first 60GB of usage, but after that Afrihost will shape or throttle the service to protect other users on the network.

You will still be able to use your account and it will never be capped, but it will not be as fast as our capped accounts at that point. Our capped accounts are designed for users who require continuous downloads 24 hours a day.

The uncapped service is relatively new and we will be looking at how we can improve these thresholds as more clients join our network.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards."

Who in their right mind is going to download continuously on a capped account.
Even at R29 or even R14 per gig that is still going to cost a fortune.

i'm cancelling too..

no way i'm using my account when i have speeds of 196kbps when i have a 4mb line..

would never have bought this account if i knew of the throttling after 60 gb..

the bare min i need is 5gb a day with torrents and normal use, so thats 150gb monthly..by then i will be heavily throttled.

mweb here i come!!

Does anyone know if you cancel your afrihost uncapped immediately do they refund/credit you the pro-rata amount for the rest of the month?

PS: I've already mailed Afrihost about this but their support is a 24 hour wait (if youre lucky) from my recent experiences

I've decided I'm going to Mweb today. After 6 and a very well supported torrent is bouncing around 5kb/s. No more waiting for me.

I've used 58gb so far and yes downloads are slow atm, but I assume that's due to the network being overused by new subscribers. I'll personally stay with them another month or two and see how things pan out. They've never let me down in the past.

I've currently used about 50GB this month, and speeds are still decent for HTTP etc. The below is what their (Afrihost's) FAQ says currently, though it's not clear to me if these "categories" reset each month.

I want to use this account to download heavily - How is my usage going to be throttled if I do download heavily?

This is how we are currently dealing with our Uncapped 4096 accounts:

===============
PLEASE NOTE: These are our current settings we plan to use - however, they may change in the future.

This is our first iteration of a brand new product and we are learning as we go - We are hoping to refine this and over time make the limitations less
===============

On signing up to our Uncapped product you will get our standard ADSL service. (i.e. certain ports are shaped somewhat and web and email are prioritised.)

After you have moved 30 GBs you will be moved into a different category whereby certain ports will be shaped more aggressively. However, web and email will still be prioritised.

After moving a total of 60 GBs you will be moved into a different category where your line speed is throttled to 1024 kbps per second and certain shaping protocols are in place.

After moving a total of 90 GBs then you will be moved into a category where you will be throttled to 512 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 120 GBs you will be moved into a category where your line will be throttled to 386 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 150 GBs you will be moved into a category where you are throttled to 128 kbps.

You will never be capped.

If you use this account for heavy downloading then you WILL be throttled at some point in the month so please think about whether this account is for you.

Please note: The above explanation is how we are currently planning on dealing with accounts from April but we do reserve the right to change these at any time - The bottom line is that if you intend to use this account for heavy downloading you will be shaped and throttled at some time.

But of course uncapped internet was made for browsing and email, idiots.

my torrents were flying from 6pm last night, i was averaging 350kb/s +!

the best thing was not the speed but the consistancy..every single torrent was that fast.

good seeding must have helped but i'm sure AH opened the taps.

it makes up for the fact that downloads are useless during the day.

managed to do 10 gb...if it wasn't for my faulty line that kept timing me out i would have done more.

I'm just about to hit 30GB and I'm still getting full speed news all hours of the day.
