For 384:

After moving a total of 60 GBs then you will be moved into a category where you will be throttled to 128 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

that i think is still abit harsh compared to a 4mb user

Download speeds really have improved, I was throttled to 1meg at first after reaching 60gb and I didn't mind but I’m glad they relaxed the throttling and shaping of certain protocols.

I’ve now done 92GB on my 4meg account for the month and I’m still downloading at full speed 420kb/s + :)

Yeah I noticed my speeds improved back to full line speed again after being throttled badly during the start of the month.

A bit late after loosing so many subscribers

They will not be missed, especially by afrihost. You can't make money as an ISP from a mega-leach constant downloader. If I download, I do so at night and on weekends. And torrent speeds are usually good over those times. I have exactly the same good quality experience as I had when I paid them per gig.

Well done Afrihost!!

I also have no doubt that the product will continue to get better over the coming months

atleast they are showing recovery from the recent storm, the 384k one isn't so bad, hope it will improve over time.

They probably have more control of the situation now that there are less 24/7 downloader

I can't agree with the first part of your statement. Afrihost has chased away a lot of customers who are not huge downloaders. I downloaded 15GB before my uncapped Afrihost account became totally useless and I was forced to cancel. So does downloading 15GB make me a "mega-leach constant downloader"?

Everyone has different needs. When I envisioned "uncapped" for myself, I saw 60GB as being very reasonable. I knew I would never use as much as 60GB but it was still nice knowing that if I ever did want to download something large, I would be able to.

I have no problem with limits. But lets be reasonable. I think the new terms are much better, but still not perfect. Especially for the 384 users.

I just really wish Afrihost would have enough respect for their customers to let us know when there is a change of their terms. I really don't think that is too much to ask.

Nah, lets be even more reasonable , Afrihost did say they're launching their products in a "BETA" state and expect to enhance/change it based on uptake etc etc. It's not even been ONE MONTH , and people went from happy to angry to grumbling negativities all over the forum based on this product. Now people say it"s "too little too late" ? I call BS, the ones that are so itchy , changing their mind about a service like a bi-polar patient every 2 days, really i don't think Afrihost [or any provider really] will miss those [no matter what your usage was].

Tomorrow Mweb might change their policy and then i can tell you these exact same people will be posting "mweb sux" posts all over the place, while cancelling their service "on the spot".

I suppose if I'd had your experience I would feel differently, but I didn't. My connection has been pretty much the same since paying per gig. It seems they throttled daytime torrents which didn't really affect me. I download most nights when I hit the sack, probably do around 30-40Gb a month max.

I was very close to cancelling when I hit the previous 15GB throttle, even bought a once-off OpenWeb account to test. Just a day later Afrihost increased their limits and I was having doubts about leaving as OpenWeb's speeds on the 384k weren't that great either. Now I think I'll stick with Afrihost, most I'll do is 30 odd gig a month so the new ratios suit me just fine.

Sure they had some losses from the fallout but if they keep improving they can bounce right back.

I must have missed the part where they said it was a Beta product. I know they said they were not going to offer the 384 and 512 accounts until after they tested the 4meg accounts. Then not too long after that they started offering the slower accounts. I was surprised it was so quick but presumed the testing was over. When I ordered the product, I don't remember seeing anything about it being in Beta. If I had, I would have been much more understanding.

I agree, people are very quick to chop and change providers. A lot of the time those with the loudest voices are those who are the ones doing the most downloading. But in this case, I believe a lot of innocents where caught in the crossfire. For me, the final straw was when my "uncapped" account was completely unusable when I reached 15GB. Not even browsing was possible. And not even a word from Afrihost as to their new policy. Thinking the softcap was 200GB and then being cut off at 15GB with no word from Afrihost was a big shock. Then getting absolutely no response from Afrihost made me angry. Even their support staff had no idea what was actually going on. Different answers from each one I contacted. If Afrihost had just kept me in the loop I would have been much more patient.

I think it was worse for those of us on 384 - the connection was completely unusable. Those on 4meg lines might have had a major slowdown, but were still able to browse, etc.

Agree about Mweb. I'm still expecting them to spring something nasty on their uncapped users in the future. Hope I'm wrong, but I won't be surprised if they do.

I for one am not going to sign up for an uncapped account with any other ISP until these accounts are more stable and I know exactly what I'm getting.

Count your blessings then :)

If it was just the torrents being throttled, I would be a happy person, as I don't download torrents ever. Its when you're paying for an uncapped account and you can't even browse, thats when I have a big problem with the service.

Well this is what Afrihost said right at the start when the throttling stuff started coming out, if this does not say "Beta" , "Untested" and "Will most likely change in the future" , then i don't know what is:

Afrihost_Gian said:
Quite simply we do not know if this needs to be tweaked
or not - we will only be able to tell over time. This is
all brand new to us too and due to the incredible
appetite for downloads we are learning as we are going.
We are hoping that as the novelty wears off and fewer
clients look to download heavily the accounts we can
allow more and more GB usage.

Just readin that, implies they would need more than a month at least to gauge what works and what doesn't .....there's no way they could've "tested" the 4096 accounts in 1 or 2 weeks. They most likely only tested that the connection itself works , the issue about usage and throttling can't be realistically determined in such a short time.

Yes, it's not only Afrihost, i think IS in general is dead. It's the Seacom maintanance.
