Did anyone else's afrihost uncapped (384) just suddenly die? I cant browse international sites and my downloads have stopped

Also on Afrihost uncapped (for the moment) and my international also went down a few minutes ago.

Yes, it's not only Afrihost, i think IS in general is dead. It's the Seacom maintanance.

It's good to hear it's not an Afrihost-specific problem. The throughput on their network had steadily improved over the last few weeks so it would be really sad if after all they've done to improve service levels their whole network collapsed.

Having done around 120GB on 4mb AH uncapped, I was quite happy to see speeds running at 400kB/s. then all of a sudden speeds just dropped again. Was actually about to cancel the cancellation, and not even bother moving to Mweb, but looks like that is still on...

I am cancelling my cancellation. Getting full speeds at the moment. Which I'm not getting on Openweb...so my openweb once off, will stay an openweb once off.

Has anyone else confirmed if its only Afrihost international that's down or does this affect other IS ADSL clients as well? I'm on uncapped 384K and I can't get through to their customer service. Been down for about 2-3 hours this morning. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ramon

Does Afrihost still "shape" your speeds once you reach a certain download "limit"? If so, what is this "limit" on a 4meg line/account?

Yes, but it is a combination of shaping and throttling and there are a number of profiles. How did you a buy a meg account? AFAIK they only have 384,512,4M,8M ? Their FAQ covers the first 3 of those options:

i read that, but some people i know still claim they are getting full line speed even after downloading +100gb. According to FAQ on the site, they should be almost at dialup speed?

I know of at least 2 other people (besides me) that have been throttled. Before the cable outage, I noticed that the throttling does not take ALWAYS take place on all protocols and then comes back later. I guess AH are still testing their policies etc.

It's like a roller coaster, up and down, I was experiencing slower speeds last night and this morning full speed again

International access (browsing) has been reasonable so far on AH 384. No downloading possible.

Is anyone downloading off news servers or have I just been shaped me to death because I hit 100GB?

Local news servers seems OK, international ones very slow. Probably shaped to allow higher priority traffic through the remaining international links.

Waste of time with Afrihost, I was with them from the start for a backup ADSL account in case our main one went down and switched to the uncapped from the first of this month to save some money as our average monthly use is about 30 Gig. Big mistake - last Saturday everything came to a halt with download speeds sitting at about 6 kbps - my old 14,400 US Robotics was faster on dial-up . Signed up with Axxess, it took all of 5 minutes to get connected with dload speeds as it should be and emailed all the customers, who incidently all bitched about the speed or rather lack of it to change to either Mweb or Axxess.
Did Afrihost over estimate the number of users or is it a screw up in the technical side? Who cares

Just remember, Afrihost has limits... No one says Axxess doesn't either.

I still like Afrihost, they put me through a bit of nonsense when they went uncapped but now, it seems to be ok... hope i am not throttled to cr@p though because torrents are going at like 6kb... MWEB is worse because of the Seacom issue.
