Afrihost Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

Last month I had full speed the whole month on my 4mb, I think I got about 115gig .... I have noticed some discrepancies in speed this month, been up and down, but could be because of the Neotel / Seacom issues we have been having...

You prob right. Have no hassles on AH uncapped, but SEACOM + other prob are def interfering with line speeds. Hope can be sorted. At least we know it isn't really AH

Could someone please help me understand:

I have 384 uncapped from AH. Since the start of may, i have had intermittent speeds, but the last 2 days have been crappy. Anyways, my point is. AH says i have used 10gigs this month. The problem is i have had a total connection time of 84 hours. This would mean i am running at nearly full line speed, constantly? I haven't had that enjoyment ever with adsl, not even on my capped accounts. Are there any other people with the same? I can count on one hand the small files i have downloaded this month. Very strange.

My 384k account is always fine with http and after hours I notice no shaping on other protocols.

Does your router have any bandwidth in/out statistics so you can compare them to Afrihost's meter? Maybe install a bandwidth monitor if you don't have one already and see if you have any usage you shouldn't have. I have seen some complaints about Afrihost's usage meter but best to make sure you don't have any malware or someone piggy-backing of your connection first.

Mweb FTW!

Yay back in front of the PC after a weekend away, started downloading some stuff through p2p about 2 and a half hours ago and my 4meg uncapped line has been maxed out the whole time :) . Bandwidth monitor reporting 2.5gb downloaded and 150mb up at the time of post.

+1 Afrihost :)

They will not be missed, especially by afrihost. You can't make money as an ISP from a mega-leach constant downloader. If I download, I do so at night and on weekends. And torrent speeds are usually good over those times. I have exactly the same good quality experience as I had when I paid them per gig.

So do I. DIfference is they shaped (to the point it was unsable) a vpn tool I use for business that would never exceed 15gig in one month and they refused to help us. So in that regard they are no good at all.

All these ppl saying they're "maxing out" their 4mb/s line on Afrihost are either dreaming or they have a very "special" relationship with the management of Afrihost. Afrihost speed = the worst! I'm back on a normal pay per GB, supposedly unshaped after hours and it's almost as bad as last month's "unshaped". Come on ppl, Afrihost paying you or are you guys just "very special". Even with multiple downloads, browsing etc, I can clearly see how my speed is reduced by Afrihost. Connecting via Axxess (have a few GB there) gives me full speed... what Afrihost is supposed to supply.

You'd better delete that post. If Afrihost sees it, you're moving to the top of the throttle list! :D

@BlackDragonSS....Wow you just gave youself away...can you do 10GB a day?

Yep. From my previous experience with Afrihost (I also cancelled my account subsequently) you can download as much as you want. There's no rolling windows or anything. So at about 3.5Mbps throughput (that's the maximum I usually got when the SEACOM cable didn't give trouble) you can (theoretically) download: 3.5*60*60*24/8/1024 = 36.9GB in a day.

As soon as you hit 50GB your "non-standard" ports get shaped, though. Check out the Afrihost Uncapped FAQ for what they do to your connection/line at the various thresholds.

Is just me or is there problems with connectivity. We are in Cape Town, the connection is stable, but sometimes cant open any site. Has been like this the whole morning

Lol… they do monitor how much data I use for the month you know, that’s why there’s a usage graph in my Client Zone.

As for doing 10GB a day, well it shouldn’t be a problem but there really isn’t always something I want that would rank up that amount in a day and my “day” (using my account) being from 6PM to the next morning 5AM, but taking yesterday from 6pm to 5am into account my usage equals 13GB :)
