I was on Afrihost, moved to Mweb when I heard about the 30GB limit and now I am considering moving back to Afrihost after crap internet from Mweb over the last few weeks. I probably wont do more that 50 -70GB and I found that Afrihost's shaping is much more relaxed before the 1st threshold and also more gaming friendly.

On Mweb I could probably get about 350GB a month if I tried but due to the crazy random shaping mass downloading is all it is really good for.

For those who wont do more than 60 GB this uncapped option is very good. Apart from the first 2 weeks, I have had quite a pleasant experience.

The past two nights have been terrible on all ports, I am on a 384k line and past 30GB downloaded. I guess "aggressive shaping" on my account has kicked in

there is no shaping on a 384kb account from what I read only on 4meg lines. I could be wrong but thats what i read on the faq that they might introduce restrictions depending how user's abuse it. I have seriously bad lag on afrihost unable to game overseas. I hear this is IS fault with seacom cable. I find this unacceptable as they also say it could be 6months before it is corrected. so no more gaming. There shaping/throttling is very unaggressive after business hours which is great but heavy during hours which is very acceptable. So good service except the insane lag at the moment being 400-2000ms latency spiking. even facebook mafiawars lags very sad. i am on a 4meg account. download speeds still pretty high but I want better latency.

Ja nee kids,

I am seriously still cruizing here... Done less than 20GB this month but all have been at constant 30-50kb speeds (Changed packages 3 times from 384k > 512k back to 384k)

Afrihost are AWESOME!!! They offer the best service and we have their 4meg uncapped and it's brilliant!!!!

AFRIHOST ROCKS

*edit
We first had trouble with throttling because we couldn't control ourselves :D but now that we (family) understand not every file is needed this second we get great speeds anytime we need it.

So sad. Have to leave ADSL and Afrihost for six months. Uncontrolled wife spending! Got to dig myself out of the hole. Don't stress AH, i'm back soon, promise>>>

I'm still happy. Use Uncapped account at my offices, and 1gig with topups at home (use it for gaming and youtube etc). Probably average about 10gig a month at home and about 70gig at work.

Edit: Both on 4mb lines...

I went over 50 GB's last night and true to the FUP my speeds dropped. Was still getting 250KB/s on news servers so can't complain.
Still very happy with Afrihost - my only gripe would be that it would be nice to see some more presence in these forums now that the storm has subsided.
If you aint going to do more than 100GB's a month I would certainly recommend Afrihost.

I haven't been using my Afrihost for a while (I only have 1gb with them anyway, I know this is an uncapped thread but whatever), trying to download something now to use up the last of it and I'm getting ~ 7-10KBps (at most 15).

It was downloading full speed earlier and when I checked again at about 18:00 it was awful. Is it usually this bad nowadays? My assumption is that it's due to heavy uncapped users.

My other ISP account works fine. So is it just a glitch with Afrihost atm?

I stuck with them. In April I downloaded 100GB. This month, I've done 36GB and I been happy with their speeds and service.
