ffs someone recommend a new Isp for me for under R500, Afrihost is #%$!

You get what you pay for.

Under R500? For a 4mb uncapped a/c?

Have to agree with Adrenalin, broken. After all the drama with SEACOM last month (and the beginning of this month) I decided to switch back to a SAT-3/SAFE account and WebAfrica's Titan special had just launched... So I'm on that now and it flies! I hear from MWEB uncapped subscribers that they're getting decent speeds through that even though it's shaped, but it's R539.

My Afrihost 50gig account has been a JOKE the past few weeks. Anyone else experiencing very crappy speeds?

Not me.

Was down for a few minutes this afternoon but then came back up.

They see me downloadin'

I have been on Afrihost for about a week and the first few days was getting a very nice 400 kb/s, this lasted a day or two, I'm now happy with 50 kb/s. I'm on 4 meg uncapped and I havent reached any threshold yet, only on about 30 gig. Im new to DSL. Is this kinda of variation par for the course.

Just hit 120GB on my 384k uncapped account. Alls good... still a few days remaining.. Hoping to do around 140-150GB this month

Be that with what, the Axxess 384 uncapped with line speed in the evenings?
Because you're definitely not going to hit 120GB on a 384 line... 115GB max (max up and down).

Their thresholds for shaping/throttling have not changed in more than a month.
Has anyone heard anything about any potential changes?

Lets do some maths:

384 kilobits per second = 168.75 megabytes per hour

Total hours up to now for may [25 days] = 600

If you were downloading 24-7 getting max speed EVERY SINGLE SECOND you would only be hitting 168.75 x 600 = 101 GB .

The max possible for the month of may would be 744 x 168.5 = 125GB .

Now it's highly unlikely that you can possibly download 24-7 at max speed for an entire month without any form of slow down or outage or reboot or disconnection . I'm sure Seacom alone did not make this possible with all the breakages and maintenance.

I've not even started to calculate Afrihost THROTTLING into all this, so it's even more unlikely that you'd be getting 384 kbps speeds past 30GB....

So you might want to check your usage meter again, or make sure you're not in fact on a 4 MB/s package without your knowledge :D

PLUS the uncapped packages only allow 1 concurrent connection...so not even that will increase usage...

Guys, here the proof

Ok and how about a speedtest just for interest sakes. That graph is so totally not a 384 kbps line graph.

1. It is not possible in a million zillion years to download 12GB in one day on 384 line [on one concurrent connnection].
2. You are not even maxing out on the graph, one day it is 12GB, next day its 9GB and then 3GB ....wth? It means you can do 12GB EVERY DAY and you are not doing so .

Big bug there....The graph looks like a 4 MB/s line stats....[and i believe that is exactly what it is]

If i were to work backwards using that 12GB in one day it means you required a speed of : 1.1 MBit/sec .

So are you saying you can download 400GB a month on that account if you had more space? You're now just blatantly lying here...
