Afrihost Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

I have had good results with AH so far. 384 uncapped and my astraweb avg's at 25Kb/s which is ok i think. 28Gb done so far this month, there does appear to be throttling on torrents tho.
 
I called thier offices this morning because one of our applications that we use to connect to our clients databases was not working. We thought that maybe Afrihost had shaped that particular port into oblivion as that is where we chomp the most bandwidth. I was then told that not only was our line unshaped but that it would only be slighlty shaped at 100 gig.

I am happy.

Hit 30Gb tonight. Unable to access News, Rapidshare doing snail speeds.

so, I check on my usage... and according to their BW monitor, I am sitting on approx 77GB. Do a speedtest, and get roughly 1mbps, which sux, but it was to be expected. Now, try and download something off rapidshare (have a premium account) and speeds are erratic, with an average of around 25KB/s. So not only have they throttled me, they are now also shaping HTTP downloads (well rapidshare at least). Tried downloading off microsoft.com, and there I get the full 110KB/s.

Sent through my cancellation notice, and am moving over to MWEB from 1 May...

Maybe they realised that there's just no way to please a mob, no matter what you say.

Yeah they screwed up, but I think that some people went a bit over the top. If people are not happy with the product, they should talk with their wallets and move elsewhere, then move back when they improve their offering after having lost customers. That will teach AH a lesson far better than publicly chastising them, and they would respond by improving their offering to get you back. Everyone wins in the end.

The same thing happened with Webafrica - there were understandably some angry customers a few months back and that's fine. But some people went as far as to personally attack Matt. Stuff like that is not on IMO, so it's no wonder that they're not very active here anymore either.

I have done 100gigs so far on 4mb line ,my account is unusable now.

well no communication or lack of any feedback here would have me worried as a client. Imho how are they going to deal with you when they can't even handle a little heat and problems on a public forum.

You mean you worry about Telkom every day because they don't respond here or anywhere? Not responding on this forum actually means diddly squat, there's quite a few companies who never respond on here either and still manage to deliver a service and PLENTY that DO respond who deliver pretty crap service [Neotel etc] if you ask me. I'm not even sure Mweb responded on here before their uncapped offerings....and they'll most likely stop responding once the packages are running smoothly too.

I'm sure if you had been attacked like Gian was, you'd also give a moratorium on conversing on the forums. There are some seriously spoilt brats on the forum, and the best way to address them, is to ignore them. Unfortunately, those that have genuine topics of discussion have to suffer too. I'm sure that's a reflection of their T&C's too?
 
And ... it is slow again...

So up to 48 gig fine, slow from 48.1 gig onwards...

Are there other problems around that they are not telling us? Undersea cable issues etc?

Afrihost on the other hand does, 3 of them and still no response. Not even 'we are working on it'. Seriously even ODS was ****, but they kept there presense. Look at openweb, not even they are this silent.

I've just jumped ship to Mweb - there are so many people with different stories that I suppose the only way is to try them all. I personally am only on 24Gb but torrent's are limited to 5kb/s in the day, youtube is really really slow and I'm unsure when I'll be throttled. So far Mweb is cruising along nicely. If Mweb don't cut it, then end of next month I'll jump to Axxess until I find an ISP that is at least consistent...

The lack of communication is a result of the pathetic behavior displayed by some people here. If there are concerns, there is nothing wrong with raising it in a civil manner.

I'm not sure what you mean about dealing with clients, as they've always responded to my emails promptly. Just because they've stopped responding on MyBB doesn't make them a bad company, and it wouldn't have me worried as a client if they don't reply here as this forum isn't some sort of holy sanctuary where a few uncouth geeks try to play god by getting personal.

Also not all clients are MyBB members, so I'd be more worried if they stopped responding to me personally rather than not responding on MyBB.

Well said. Check out the thread for Tanya35? Exactly the kind of Crap to give MyBB a bad name. MAybe the mods can do some banning.

i agree, but it doesn't mean they have to 'stick head in the ground' here. Just 'we are working on it' vs complete silence would go a long way, you think? Or atleast something without getting into the 'trolls'.
