I've cancelled. Submitted tickets to Afrihost on Monday...but am still waiting for a reply.
In the meantime they've lost yet another customer.

Have signed up with MWeb and so far so good.

It would be a much shorter thread if we asked who HASN'T left Afrihost

ha ha ha, according to AH they were having a pow wow with IS today to discuss the throttling thing and what they can do to resolve it asap. That's all that I was told this morning. I'm pretty much going with MWEB month after next, I believe in giving AH another chance/month so will see what happens.

I'll give them another chance as well, provided they can provide full transparency on their throttling issue as well as start providing feedback again.

I have, probably gonna move to Mweb, but I also like Axxess new offer so still deciding :-)

Hmmm... So are AH saying that the throttling is coming down from IS? I doubt this as the other IS resellers don't seem to have this issue.

The more likely explanation is that AH underestimated the amount of bandwidth they'd need, didn't buy enough of it, are oversubscribed as a result and have had to apply the brakes as hard as they can as all their bandwidth got b*tch-slapped by a GB-starved public.

yea you are probably right that they didn't buy enough. I wouldn't know. Like you fellas here i'm also with them and considering changing. I emailed them this morning and got a reply. I asked about the throttling and was lucky enough to get a phone call to confirm that it was true that they do throttle. In a follow up email they said that they're having a meeting with IS. I can only assume that they didn't buy enough and are now k@king themselves....

I'd take Afrihosts excuses with a pitch of salt, they've used just about every excuse they can think of...

I have left - both their uncapped and normal Gb service came down to max. 100kb speeds on a 4Mb line and a number of guys complained about the latency on both their uncapped, month-to-month and prepaid accounts.

So far WA outperformed them on all fronts in d/l speeds and latency.

Gonna be cancelling tomorrow to sign up with MWEB. The sons of bitches have really done a number on us ><

canceled all my account with them (my 3 uncapped and one capped account) though they refunded me with no hassle. here is a + for them

I do feel for them just a little bit. I worked in the UK's ISP sector for nine years and remember only too well what happened there when caps were relaxed and/or done away with. It was a feeding frenzy and this past month has been no different.

Then again, if only AH had come clean about this, they may have saved themselves a lot of customers. A London-based ISP even went as far as to mail their entire customer base to tell them that they were limiting all uncapped clients to 50GB for the first month but promised that everything would be sorted out by month #2. It was, and they only lost about 12% of the base who'd signed up specifically for uncapped. I reckon that AH have lost a helluva lot more...

True, but then again, the R29/GB AH deal is also a 'special'. And if the Axxess price goes up - you can just move to the then cheapest option.

Yes, but Afrihost have a very specific clause where they say "you will be locked into the special forever". So you know it will be R29 p/GB while you're signed up with them and/or the price drops. So the price is not gonna increase, even if the special ended . Axxess on the other hand is NOT saying this, so very well might be luring you in and next month the price is back up.

And unlike alot of people on here, i'm not into the habit of changing ISPs every month. I might change if the price goes from R60 p/GB to R30 p/GB , but hell, changing ISPs for R4 p/GB savings (R29 p/GB to R25 p/GB), no. I'd only do it if i'm unhappy with said ISP.

Yes, I cancelled as well. Up til 30 gig no issue, all running very well, but after that it is slower than a dailup.
Moving over to Openweb on the 20th. They have a 100gig unshapped account that I have tested (Thanks mrBEEP).
It will suite my needs and my pocket :)

how much does that cost ?

EDIT : sorry, i just saw the price.

Cancelled both AH accounts. Very sad about it. Will go without until uncapped comes right. If AH can make a come back, i'm there. Otherwise ???
