Use utorrent, force protocol encryption (loses you some peers no big deal) and use an up to date blocklist of IP addresses not to talk to.
 
I've also cancelled - last week already (so the account is still active for the rest of the month). I had already cancelled my 5GB package with them so I no longer have any accounts with AH at all (just glad I never cancelled my standard telscum package...it may be expensive and limited but at least it's reliable - never thought I'd say that!).

At least I did manage to bring down some hefty windows updates on my uncapped today (a little over a gigs worth - it's for my new dell that I got on friday!) so at least I'm able to get some use out of it still. I've also been streaming some UK radio (what a pleasure to listen to some nice music for a change - pity my connection struggles with the 128kbps feeds though). Anyway I obviously can't really use the account for much apart from a little browsing (gaming is pathetic, downloads cause my modem to go into a frenzy and reset itself every few minutes) but at least it seems to work okay for work purposes (well unless I'm downloading stuff from assembla (via SVN)...a whopping average of around 6kb/s!

Someone else will be getting my business from the 1st of May...still deciding who it's going to be but so far it looks like mweb will be the next candidate!

Well they have until the end of the month...lol. Seriously I don't expect to download the world but I also think 30GB is far too tiny a restriction on a 4 meg line when I had my heart set on near 200GB (and I'm not even that greedy...but I want at least 150GB of awesomeness...increased from 100 in case they actually read this post - which seems unlikely).
 
Ive cancelled and applied with Mweb; its so easy to apply with afrihost compared to Mweb;
With Regard to Openweb; they resell IS accounts like Afrihost, so how would it be better to move to them?

The package that is causing all the complaints is not the standard IS package (the one that Axxess, OpenWEB etc resells). AH buys capacity (maybe bandwidth?) from IS and does the throttling/shaping themselves.
 
Running both mweb & afrihost accounts..using mweb vs AH is like running vs crawling! So will be killing my Afrihost account this month. I tried complaining, tried getting my money back, tried holding on for support for 40 minutes... in the end, I just gave up.

Ok so i dont get it, if openweb n axxess both resell IS accounts, why is Afrihost chatting to IS to resolve this issue? it seems to be specific to only Afrihost - and their network programmers who have written this throttling script?

Not every ISP buys the same types of accounts from IS. The relationship between the reseller and IS might differ, i think Axxess do not only resell IS bandwidth etc.

If you check out these reseller ISPs websites and check who THEIR ISPs are:

Afrihost's own ISP seems to be IS, where both Axxess and Openweb have different ISPs....[Afrinic/Hetzner] . So looks to me Afrihost is much more "in bed" with IS than Axxess/Openweb.
