Since it is a consumerism issue, I would suggest the CPA, Regulation, and Consumerism forum: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/forumdisplay.php/88-CPA-Telecoms-Regulation-and-Consumerism
dude, you messed up, you gave mod rights to people paying you money, they are now using those powers toi litrally silence complaints against them and then claiming it is posted in the wrong thread, and you are supporting them.

IF you are being truthful and the posts were in the wrong thread, the thing to do is MOVE them, to a different thread, not out and out delete them.

do the right thing, and make a stand, afrihost messed up and need to be scolded here.
where is the article on this issue?
where is the accountability?

I am disappointed in you rpm.

Hey guys. :) Sorry about the delay in replying to this thread. We're aware that some clients received SMSes that might not have been addressed to them. First of all, I can assure you that is not a phishing scam. This is a survey currently being conducted by our directors and I can assure you that everything is legitimate and all above board. The name issue is an error that we were made aware of early on and are currently addressing with our partnered SMS provider. I believe that this only affected a specific group of clients and, as far as I know, the issue has been rectified and you won't be receiving any wrongly addressed messages anymore.

From our side, I would like to whole heartedly apologize if this alarmed or offended anyone, as it certainly wasn't our intention. :) I'd also like to encourage everyone who hasn't done so yet, to complete the survey with their rating as it really gives us a great insight into client sentiment and how we can work it into future products to make it great for everyone.
Seems as if your directors got confused with a dating site.
Sincerely, Gian

Again, you are simply wrong.

Why not just re-post in another forum? Why this whole debate, rather than just re-posting the message?

It is not an Afrihost client support issue. If he is an Afrihost client, looking for support, it would have been a different story.
Then this thread would be in the wrong place as the SMS was sent to everyone regardless of whether they are still a client and/or signed up for the notification. Same with the e-mail.
The post by MagicDude was directly related to this thread as the SMS/mail was unwanted.

This is simply incorrect.
I'm not saying what he posted is necessary correct and that I agree with his actions, it will take some research to check all facts. But why was this post deleted and not just moved to the correct thread so it can be further discussed?

Interesting that your posts are being censored. Thanks for the info.
He's not alone in it. In September I gave AH flak after weeks of poor internet and nothing but excuses, and they got RPM to send me a 'friendly request' telling me I'm no longer allowed to post in that thread. Do you remember that, RPM?

AH reps have way too much sway with the top brass at MyBB.

Not censored, just the wrong forum. It is good info, but did not belong in the Afrihost support forum, which is aimed at solving problems of existing clients.
Interesting that you elect to take that stance, considering said poster says he has now had his read access rights for that topic removed. Is that common practice when people post in the wrong thread?

MyBB has always been too heavy handed with its moderation and always in favour of those who pay the bills.

You could probably argue that the snafu should have been covered by MyBB themselves, but they studiously ignored it.
Pretty good information there and time that went into it just to be deleted instead of moved appropriately.

He is most welcome to re-post it in another forum. Not sure why he does not do that?

RPM with actions like this, you are not winning here.

You are being completely ignorant about this:
1) I AM an Afrihost customer
2) I have never asked for unsolicited messages
3) I posted in the thread which discussed the issue and offered other customers advise
4) Your forum has blocked me from viewing/contributing to the thread https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/891782-Afrihost-spam-and-broken-unsubscribe-link without reason

Since you are the owner of the forum and MyBB is an ISPA member, it is ultimately your responsibility that you comply with ISPA conduct, which in this instance you have not.

FWIW: Since I can not trust that my posts remain in the same content I have originally posted them, I have provided the full background with screengrabs of posts on my blog: https://www.naschenweng.info/2017/0...rs-consumer-activism-afrihost-sms-email-spam/

@RPM: No, I will not repost my content which has been deleted by either MyBB staff or Afrihost reps. I have confirmation that my posts were not deleted by volunteer mods and even they disagreed with the action of deleting several posts.

Feel free to properly comment to ISPA since they will surely get in touch with you about your code-of-conduct.

I did offer my services to MD4E to move it to the other sub-forum as a standalone thread.

Sorry, rpm, in this case baxteen is right and you defending the bad conduct of Afrihost is wrong.

Surely it should have been abundantly clear that giving the entity being complained about mod rights in a section where people would complain about them is patently unwise? They don’t like a complaint they just delete it, the subscriber isn’t happy with the deletion and complains again so they simply threadban the customer...

Or is that section only for good news stories, advertorials and promotional posts by Afrihost?

Why not just re-post in another forum? Why this whole debate, rather than just re-posting the message?
Why did the mods not just move the post into its own thread in the correct forum, as happens to various off-topic posts regularly? Why outright delete a fairly large post that would take a significant amount of time for the poster to rewrite by hand?

RPM, I understand you're looking out for your business, but you're really not fooling anyone here with this particular line of reasoning. Rather just outright tell us it was removed to protect one of your larger advertisers' interests, because everyone already knows that's what happened.

If you're not allowed to post in that forum unless you are an Afrihost client, does that mean potential Afrihost clients cannot post questions about Afrihost?

Like I did myself - I posted a thread in that forum asking about Afrihost before I joined them as a mobile client. Perhaps you should move my thread then?

My understanding is he declined to have the post moved to another area.

Well he said in his post that his access rights have been blocked for the topic where he posted. So now how does he know if he won't get blocked on the next topic... I guess that is a good enough reason not to post again. Eish....

Edit:

thats good

I’m struggling with the concept that a post by an Afrihost customer about Afrihost is somehow off-topic in the Afrihost section though, where would it be moved to?
