Where did I say that? I said you want to change it from the inside. You said you will do something rather than nothing. Now you are saying you will not?
 
There definitely appears to be a possible benefit to mother tongue instruction in the early years. But hostility towards use of the mother tongue when instruction is carried out in another language may also be a factor in hampering children's early school learning. And as I recall exactly that was happening in South African schools with pupils being punished for using their mother tongue at school.

I think schools should teach in whatever language the majority of parents want instruction carried out assuming suitable teachers are available. That is quite probably a reason why many schools make Afrikaans the required second language, they have the teachers. This does mean that someone may have no choice, but to send their child to a school where Afrikaans is the language of instruction or the required second language. If you don't like the schools in your area, then you either have to move or go private.

First of all, Afrikaans CAN be a discriminatory language, full stop. Zulu, Sotho, Tswana, etc CAN be a discriminatory languages.

I don't have to conform to anything, when a white person comes to a township what language does he use? Zulu? Are you telling me that if you go to a township that you will speak in Zulu or Sotho? If not why? Do I now have to speak Afrikaans so that I can be seen to have manners (in the eyes of people of Orania) but then it is fine if white people don't speak Zulu or Sotho in a township?. We live in the new South Africa here, English is the only language that most people communicate in. When president Zuma presents his state of the nation address, he does so in English, not?

This is the sort of dinosaur mentality that I have a problem with.

I won’t reply regarding the ANCYL, this should be a topic for another day.

That's because they've been "forced" to learn Afrikaans at work, like domestic workers and farm workers. I've heard black people working in Pretoria telling me that during meetings whereby there's only one black guy and the rest white Afrikaans speaking people, Afrikaans was used during the meeting, why? Does the black guy have to conform to that environment and speak Afrikaans and adopt an Afrikaans culture now? I am against that dinosaur mentality and way of thinking.

So you would rather be like a deaf person in a crowd of people that spoke Afrikaans? Well that is how it feels for me when I’m at work and everybody talks in their language. Which is everything but English or Afrikaans. I would have been able to understand. You know how nice it is when you hear your name and know people are talking about you but you do not understand what they are saying.

Just because I demand fairness regarding the issue of pupils being "forced" to take Afrikaans from Grade 10 onwards doesn't mean I will now march to the Union Buildings to demand jobs and demand white people's money and their cars and farms and businesses, etc. Stop painting everyone with the same brush.
 
@OP - Hoe vervelig moes jou dag nie gewees het om al die goed uit te dink nie. I think one should try to strife to something bigger than looking to find fault on someone elses front door. Especially if that someone means you no harm.

Regarding your question above, the answer is if I am in a crowd of people that spoke Afrikaans then to me it wouldn't matter what they say, if they want to talk to me they must do it in English. If I want talk to a guy that speaks Venda and I speak Zulu then English will be used. If you happen to be Afrikaaner then me and you must communicate in English. I agree, it would be nice if you and me communicate in Afrikaans or Zulu, but you can't possibly expect everyone to learn all the official languages.

If the black guy wants to work for a Afrikaans company then he will have to adopt.

Workers are not forced to learn anything. In fact they don't have to work either. It seems this point is often missed.

I think you'll find you are not able to read. And please stop this constant mentioning about my parents and my experience in high school. I didn't start this thread to get over my experience at a young age, I started it because I feel the issue I have raised have merit, need to be discussed and a solution found.

Selectively replying to posts with your own inane opinion and not accepting the entirely valid counter arguments means you are in fact bull****ting with this post.

In fact you base this entire discussion SOLELY on your own experience,and the solution has been proffered: If you can provide the teachers and funding,and the demographics of the area support it additional languages and are required by enough learners it will be offered.

2) discussed - at length
3) solution - given

For this reason, I choose the companies that I work for very carefully. If a company or department is dominated by Afrikaners, I don't even bother. They are the only set of people in South Africa that think their language is better than everyone else's and can be spoken in a work meeting even when there are other people in the room that clearly don't understand it. I find this behaviour very arrogant and presumptuous.
