Hi all,

I recently got an entry level Ford Fiesta (2013) which does not come with a trip computer (The thing that shows l/100km, range to empty, average speed, etc.)

I was wondering if it would be possible to fit an aftermarket trip computer, and if anyone knows how much and from where.

Thanks.

I would just make use of a basic, entry level GPS such as the a Garmin supporting Garmin ecoRoute. With that you should cover most of your bases. An entry level unit such as the Nuvi 42 is currently on special at Makro for R849.

^ This. It is very accurate. You're also getting navigation as an added bonus ;)

Get an OBD adapter and the TorquePro app for your phone.

Works for me :)

The Garmin's ecoRoute does seem really good - but the fact that I need to plug it into the computer box seems a bit worrying. I need to find out if this will void my warranty.

You don't plug a Garmin Nuvi GPS into your cars OBD socket - it is a standalone unit that only requires you to plug it into a cigarette lighter / 12v power outlet socket.

The 42LM & 52LM are older models, the 55LM is a newer 2014 model, and has more additional features & apps.

I've done some research about Garmin's ecoRoute and it does utilize the car's onboard computer. Garmin units that support ecoRoute usually come along with a OBD Bluetooth dongle which transmits realtime information about your driving (Engine revs, air intake, fuel consumption, throttle position etc.) which is displayed on the Garmin screen.

This must be the Garmin device you were mentioning - the Garmin Mechanic with ecoRoute™ HD:

Transform your Bluetooth®-compatible nüvi or Android™ smartphone into a real-time diagnostic computer with Garmin Mechanic with ecoRoute HD.

By connecting to your vehicle’s diagnostic system, ecoRoute HD monitors vehicle performance and provides detailed system data, including engine monitoring, sensor and gauge data, fuel efficiency and engine diagnostics.

Now you can have a complete gauge cluster in one convenient location. The information displayed on the gauges page is collected directly from your vehicle. You can select the gauges you want to monitor most and customize screens with various gauge packages.

The number and type of gauges displayed may vary by vehicle.
