Amazon FireTV

It does appear that Amazon have put a lot of effort into this new device. Hopefully there will be a few reviews in the next few days.
 
Am in the market for a streaming media device, guess its still too early to conclude on this one we don't know when Unotelly will start supporting installing foreign apps from amazon's store etc. Specs look good would be the way to go if it wasn't for some uncertainties for us Africans
 
Looks like it doesn't have the feature that I like the most on the Roku, the headphone jack. Otherwise the specs look good.

I dont yet know how, but others have managed to import the Roku though Amazon lists it as not shipping outside US

Well I got my Roku 3 from Amazon US directly. So that they have delivered to SA. I am hoping that given time they will also allow export of the Fire...

it's likely. Kindles weren't always available for delivery to SA
 
The wireless remote sounds great, but for someone like me who uses a Harmony remote it's a bummer.
 
I really hope so, as this might be the device i've been waiting for. It really put sme off Roku that it can't handle Dolby Digital+ from Netflix, it would be such an improvement to have a device that can do Netflix in DD+ and Plex.

Hmm that's a bummer that you cant get Dolby from Netflix via the roku, but is it entirely just because roku doesnt have optical digi out so you can't connect it directly to an AV receiver?
 
can't play all media via the USB port (external hdd), based on the published list of supported media types
 
Impressed with what I have seen so far.If the ATV doesn't get an appstore soon this will be my next media player.
