Amazon FireTV

I don't think that the price is too unresonable as most of us don't have the possibility of getting the fire to SA and that is why I am considering the 500 R more.
The reason why I am hesitant is whether it will work with Unotelly. Having made the experience on LG region locks I would be interested to see whether we can actually get the fire to work before I order it.

I am currently using an Apple TV for all my content from Netflix and Hulu but the fire tv seems like a pretty good upgrade

Can we get a group buy going type thing really would only use it for xbmc

Hi Guys,

I have a fire tv up for grabs. R1500 (what it cost me incl. delivery + duites)

Why I bought: XBMC. Works great streaming from my microserver. Mapped the remote keys to xbmc as well (except home still takes you to fire TV home).
Why I'm selling: USB support is a problem i.e. you can only stream at the moment - as external storage is currently locked out. Needed it as a stand-alone player for parents. (oops)

PM if you're interested. Box et al.

Hi, by rooting the box you should be able to activate the usb. Haven't tested it though as I am using XBMC and streaming from a PC.
Furtherfore I have setup my box to autostart xbmc when booting and take you to xbmc when pressing home.

Check http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Amazon_Fire_TV#FiredTVLauncher

I used auto pilot to launch xbmc at boot. Haven't done the home button thingy. Streaming was great, but no one had figured out how to unlock the USB yet.

Anyway, I've sold it. Will try Ouya next

Dammit: I see I maybe wrong! But I've made the deal already, making a loss! (Just R81 though). Now I'll have to get another one :(

This must have happened very recently

OK. Took me 15 minutes to do root and get USB access to an external. :(

I'd be a douche if i reneged on the deal. So will have to let it go. DAMMIT

What does it work out to? Does amazon not ship direct?

Ag na i dont Need one, mic observer is doing its job fine for now. Maybe when I get an ADSL line I will look at it again

Just received my Fire TV, just using it in standard mode.

Very impressed, video quality is great, not sure whether that is because the video circuitry is great, or because of the pretty good wifi performance.

This has certain advantages over the Roku 3, but also lacks a few (remote headphones, additional channels).

I should maybe sell one of my Roku's and keep the other.

This may be good for travel, small and light, and with the DNS setting easy to use with UnoTelly on a mobile router. This is not as simple with a Roku 3, as you will have to set UnoTelly up on the mobile router.
