Amazon Kindle for SA

ok i had a bit of a scare.

I wanted to charge my Kindle before holiday. So I did, using a spare iphone charger I had that obviously outputs 5v and has a USB connector. So i plugged it in the wall and the Kindle's charge light came on.

I left it to charge for 13h and tried to use it when i got down here and it says "Critical Battery" and wants a recharge.

I thought oh great! stuff-up battery/charger problem.

Anyway, I plugged it into my USB port of my Laptop, and left the laptop on all night and now its got a 100% full battery :)

So I'm confused why the apple charger didnt work, it should output 5v too?? At least my Kindle is working!

I don't have my Kindle charger here, but I think I did check the 2 chargers when I got my Kindle and they did differ. Will check tonight again...

Just had a look at the iPhone and Kindle chargers - they actually are different.
Kindle: 4.9V --- 0.85A
iPhone: 5V --- 1A

Kindle, pouch, shipping, import duties - about R2800. Took like 4 days to get here (delivered to my door). That's direct from Amazon :D

That's awesome, and why then do I want to order from Have2Have or Want It All?

Did anybody have any problems with "importing"?

I'd rather get it from Amazon direct. No problems with importing - you pay Amazon the import duties and they pay it over so it's a very seamless purchase :D
You do know about the difference in content availability between the SA and US Kindle stores I'm assuming? Better to get a US Kindle Store account ;)

I saw in the earlier posts. How do you go about that? Is it something you have to do before you order the Kindle?

My Kindle has just been sent of from Amazon. Totally excited.
I paid R2475 for the device. I've wanted an ebook reader for 4 years now (ecer since I saw one on those 'products of the future' type shows).
Rapidblue if you could please pm me about a US account?
Also thought I might mention that mobipocket offer software for your PC on their site that let's you convert pdf, doc, html for free (no internet/email needed).

No, will get a silicone one from take2 (amazon wouldn't let me order the silicone). Do I really need a cover? Is it that fragile?

No idea. :P Just wondered why yours was less than previously reported.

"The Art of Intrusion" by Kevin D Mitnick :)
been looking forward to reading it for ages!

Well why did you not just go down to Exclusive take the book off the shelf and go get yourself a cappucino. :D
