Amazon Kindle for SA

Yip, only really native PDF support (which I don't really use) and better battery life with wireless on (which I don't really use - keep my wireless off). Still nice to know you're up to date though

LOL I keep wireless off aswell, web browsing is frustrating only thing I found annoying is the furtest portion read option tries to switch the wireless on and if you dont it goes to some arb location.... I think im gonna switch off wispersync and try that.

Your device will only draw the amps it requires.. Amps is never "pushed" to the device. Its and indication of the maximum that the power supply can supply should the connected device require it.....

ok so maybe it was the inverse, it wanted more amps than the charger was outputting?

When I first got my Kindle (just over a month ago) there were about 170 000 books available in the SA Store (compared to the 360 000 in the US Store). I just checked again - there are now about 275 000 books in the SA Store!! I did a search for Dean Koontz and quite a number of his books are now also available in the SA Store :D Seems like there is hope for the SA Store after all. I'll still be sticking to my US Store though, for now...

Good to know ! Interesting to check the pricing from SA to US same book is about $2 (sometimes more and NO free books cheapest you guest it about $2) more expensive lol... which is the $ 1.99 "roaming" fee US customers pay so intstead of charging you the $1.99 they make the book more expensive...

My question is on SA store then if you resend a book is there any charge there shouldnt be ?

You guessed it - download fee worked into the price of the book. There shouldn't any additional charges if you download again :)

Even if you use Kindle-for-pc the prices are $2 more, even though there is no "wireless delivery to your Kindle".

On the Kindle-for-pc there is no page numbers, just a summary of the paragraph number at the bottom of the page. Is the Kindle the same?

Kindle has "its" page numbers at the bottom. i dont think corellates to an actual printed book.

Yip, if you using the SA store then the extra $2 is integrated in the price regardless of what device you using... In this case the US store is $2 cheaper ;)

Yip, no page numbers, not on the actual Kindle either. Can't really have page numbers because depending on what text size you select the actual number of pages would differ. Amazon thus uses "Locations" - think the locations are determined according to the actual sentences...

it does rb. in the middle of the progress bar? and on the right is the total "pages"?

Not really "pages". My current page displays location 3611-21 so that's 10 locations on the page. Just counted the sentences on the current page and what do you know - 10 sentences :) Yip, locations definitely refer to sentences :D

oh ok. odd it looked like pages numbers to me. well the percentage on the left is right though? my last book it went up at every 2nd page turn exactly.

Yip, percentage is correct. Will change after x amount of turns - x is dependent on length of book a size of text.
Sounds like a mathematics class - he he :D

As you guys are probably aware, the Barnes & Noble Nook has finally launched. Just my 2c - but I consider the Kindle and the Nook the two top e-readers.
Ellen gave some Nooks away on her show last week. Slight faux pas on her part - she held the Nook up-side-down the whole time - he he ;) I wonder what the guys at Barnes & Noble where saying? "That stupid woman".
Check it out...

I would have liked the Nook but it's not directly available in SA + no wireless service for us either. I am loving my Kindle though, I doubt I'll buy any more physical books though (except for illustrated editions) and thanks to Gutenberg Press I'm finally catching up on my classics for free.

Yup will definitely stick to US store makes more sence, as to page numbers correct I also saw it refers to sentences that is how it marsk the location of a note aswell.

The progress bar is nice and the little dots on it refers to chapters if it is marked or to notes.

You know you are reading a nice thick novel when you turn 10 pages and pesentage stays the same ....

The nook looks cool but I think that colour screen is gonna sap power.... and although nice it is not needed....

Oh yes - 10 pages and the percentage remains the same - definitely a book that would've weighed twice what the Kindle does :p

Agree with the colour screen - does look nice but could be quite distracting when reading - even when it's off you'll have a black bar below where you reading...

I wouldn't go so far as thinking the Kindle and Nook are the best eBook devices. They are certainly the most well-known and perhaps easiest to use for the masses. However it depends on your needs. Some people prefer the Sony readers or other variants.

Interestingly with ePub you get actual page numbers. Regardless of the device size the number will refer to the same page.

On my Opus it shows page 10 of 286 (or whatever) and as you page it goes to 10-11, 11 etc. The double number is for end/start of pages.

Interesting to see that other devices have page numbers. I'm now quite used to the "Locations" on the Kindle - seems to make sense (seeing page numbers change if you change the text size). I am glad about the percentage tracker though ;)
