Amazon Kindle for SA

Yip, now standing at 303 250 titles (compared to the 170 000 odd titles at the launch of the international version).
The US store is standing on 402 611 but the SA store is definitely catching up :D

This is excellent news indeed. My sister has just bought a kindle after seeing my fiancee's, and I am a little worried that she is going to be disappointed with the offerings on the Africa store (my fiancee is on the US store).

Case in point, I thought I'd search for Stephen King's "Duma Key", and it is only available on the US store for the Kindle. I have also noticed improvement though, as Jodi Picoult is now available whereas it was not before.

Well now I get to see how long the local UPS branch takes to get my Kindle to me...

It took them 5 days to get it from Joburg to Durban.....

lol I think libraries are niche already....

We went to our local one and they pretty much only have kiddie books that got donated to them, sad stuff.

Any news on when a next gen Kindle is coming out? Always curious to see what they change :)

Ok Durban is clearly more efficient than JHB... :p

Got my Kindle... now to spend the day blowing lots of money and stuff like that....

Oh I have already... ;)

Plus I'm converting alot of the old ebooks I've bought previously..

MobiPocket Creator is the shiznit...

So what's to stop everyone in SA using a One-Click address in the US? It can't be hard to find a random US address and type it in. How does Amazon know whether it's genuine? Surely there's more to it than that?

That is exactly what I did.... as far as I can see nothing is preventing it because nothing is sent to the address because all the purchases are digital. I am not sure if they will plug this hole in future but for now it is working 100%

So all you need is a valid US zip code really the rest doesn't matter..

Some of the sites compare the credit card billing address to the address specified.

Amazon don't do that YET !!!

Lets hope they keep it that way... but I dont mind changing my Credit Card Billing address also....;)

Just as a total side issue, and I'll post this in the other thread as well....

Been buggering around this morning and I came across this relatively cool piece of software to manage your "library" on your pc... somewhat like iTunes...

Its going to be roughly double the price if looking at the US price is anything to go by....

Saw it on Engadget... wonder what it will cost? The fact that the Kindle 2i was < R3,000 was what made it worthwhile for me.

Price is $489 (compared to $259 for the 6" Kindle).
The DX does look cool but I think for someone like me, who mainly reads novels, it's a bit on the large side. I think it's designed more for ppl who read a lot of non-fiction with illustrations, technical books etc.

Yes, the larger screen readers are mostly aimed at people who need to read technical books (need to view full screen PDF's etc.).

There's going to be lots of competition for larger screen readers. The Que and a new reader with a foil substrate - the Skiff reader with a 11.5" screen.

Wow, that Skiff reader does look quite impressive...

Nice to see where e-readers are headed :)

That it does. I like the durability the magnesium alloy frame and metal foil substrate will offer. Aparently the actual screen component is flexable so should be great in the rigid frame.
